Brad's ongoing GalCiv update thread

Hi gang. I won't be around today, I'm at home -- my wife and I are moving to a new home. Even as I type this in the basement, there are boxes all around me and my wireless laptop is connected to my cellphone so I'll make this brief.

We'll hvae updates via SDCentral next week to GalCiv but those who want to try early patches here they are:

1) Some people have reported that the game crashes when they submit their score.

Try this new DLL (replace the one in your GalCiv directory):
http://www.stardock.com/temp/sdnetlib.dll

Here is an update that adds a few nice little tweaks. Just unzip with the directory structure intact into your GalCiv directory.
http://www.stardock.com/temp/gc101a.zip

Let us know how these work for you.

It didn't for mine. I had about 4 games won but until the last patch it crashed on submission. I managed to go back to a save game from the last one and play that the final couple turns again and submit that, but the only score that's posted is that last final game.

I have a thought.. thouse of you who can submit and can't submit have you ever had AOL or other ISP client software (Like Earthlink's Total Access bundle, Netcom's Net Cruiser etc) installed on the machine you are playing. These software (or various versions of it) replaces the tcp/ip stack which may screw it up (not likely but hey its another data point. ANd i don't know the details of how galciv sends it up) It is concievable one of these replacement stacks alter data if its destined or origionates from a specfic port for whatever reason.

On this note i never installed any ISP software that replaces the tcp/ip stack that i'm aware of, am behind a netgear router doing NAT and have been able to see the scores of all the games I've played.

Versions of AOL after 4.0 do not replace the TCP/IP stack. (For reference, I'm on AOL, and have never had problems with any Stardock software excepting a brief quirk with the ODNT CM before Object Desktop's offical release.)
