Computer and Video Games has word that GSC Game World has officially announced a new title based on the recent "Halo-killer" S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl . S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky has been scheduled for release in the first half of 2008, although with the original's delays some may doubt the timeframe. Clear Sky will be a prequel to the original fleshing out the story behind one of the main characters from Shadow of Chernobyl . Oddly enough GSC has stated that the landscape of the original was relatively peaceful and that the prequel's territory will be "extremely active and the landscape is vastly different to what you've seen before."

"Even the air isn't as pure as in the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - with these 'spatial bubbles' which are like confusing Möbius rings that whole expeditions of Stalkers simply can't find a way out of," says project lead Anton Bolshakov.

The single-player portion of the game will give players the ability to ally with any of eight different factions and work with them to seize control of key territories. As you prove yourself more and more you will get increasingly important assignments for the war effort. Players do not have to actually join a faction to progress but the destruction of one faction is a must to continue the story.

CSG has confirmed that there will be new monsters to tackle and an update to the game's AI. They have even stated that they are working on a DirectX 10 version of the title but that it wasn't a promised feature.
