Monolith Productions has shown their direct sequel to 2005's F.E.A.R. in a super secret meeting with Computer and Video Games. CVG was not allowed to bring any recording devices into the meeting but were allowed to drop some details on the upcoming official/unofficial sequel. The confusion behind the officiality (yes, that is a made up word) is due to the fact that Monolith Productions, the game's developer, owned the intellectual property to all the characters and the universe. But publisher Vivendi Universal owns the oft-bashed name for the franchise which lead to confusion when Monolith Productions was purchased by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment during the title's development.
Compounding the confusion is the numerous versions of F.E.A.R. released after Monolith's input, none of which Monolith created. The various versions since the original include the console editions for PS3 and Xbox 360 and the expansion pack for the PC called F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point. E3 2007 brought a bit more to the story when Vivendi announced new titles based on the franchise, F.E.A.R. Files for consoles and a second expansion pack dubbed F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate. So to recap, Monolith Productions and WBIE own the universe to F.E.A.R. and will be making the more "official" sequels canon-wise, although under a new name which hasn't been chosen yet. This is due to the fact that Vivendi owns the "official" title.
Onto the still untitled "official" sequel details. CVG detailed the opening sequence of the game explaining that it takes place directly after the ending of the original. Consequently Monolith has chosen to completely ignore anything that happened in Extraction Point and probably will stay away from anything from Perseus Mandate as well. The development house has promised that the already impressive AI will only be more excellent in the sequel and that players will no longer be battling Replica forces, instead they have been replaced by actual people. Besides those scant details nothing earth shattering was revealed but Monolith has promised that the action from the sequel will be "right up in your grill."
