Planet Defense ?

What are the best ways to defend a planet.?

Ships with higher defense like defenders, battleaxes, battlehammers etc. Are they better of in a planets orbit or adjacent to it.?

I moved up A.I. intelligence to normal(eh, i was playing beginner a couple of games, just to get my feet, er mouse, wet, mind you ;) ) to see how long i would last and I am just getting creamed. :sniff!:

On a side note. Racial traits wise; my impression so far is that -
the altarians always seem snotty,
the torians and arceans fickle,
the drengins aggresive, whatever their alignments are.

Only the yor seem predictable(they hate me when they are evil and love me when they are good) and dependable. They have been providing me ships and all other goodies for my war effort. ;)

I stay neutral ofcourse, for the most part.

Build starbases with modules which make your ships stronger. These affects are for the sector the starbase is in, so do this in strategic sectors. Place ships in orbit around planets and on top of starbases to defend them. For this I prefer the Battlehammer, whose stat are mediocre but whose hit points are excellent. The mediocre stats are boosted by the starbase (and planetary defense social projects) to make them powerful defenders.

And take out any starbases which can help the A.I.

Also balsr, make sure you keep them in orbit and not adjacent to your planets. If they are outside, a transport could sneak through and invade. Transports can NOT attack if you have a ship, any ship, in orbit.

Thanks guys. Those transports have been my bane. I guess keeping defenders in orbit and not adjacent to the planet is the key.

Now if can only find a way to deal with those altarins who are too sneaky and smart for their own good, i will be well on my way.

Last game they stacked corvettes with their freighters, and when i let my guard down, took out my drones, and as if my arrangement, attacked me along with the arceans from a completely different direction then what i expected. Before i could yell ouch, let alone move my ships into position, i lost 5 star systems. :sniff!:
