The final research..

Alright, I have questions about the two techs at the very top of the research trees:
Insurgency and pervasive economy.
Specifically, i'm not sure how they work.
With insurgency, when playing on a map with marauders off, sometimes when I attack planets pirates are around, are these what insurgency does? (and if so, why do my ships attack them too?)
Secondly, I have no idea how pervasive economy works, can anyone explain?

Thanks!

Pervasive Economy:

The Idea - it is suppose to represent your Empire's economic/industrial output spreading into other empires. So a portion of the stuff they buy/build was made by manufacturers in your Empire.

If that isn't clear, maybe a real life example will help. Let's say the U.S. builds an Aircraft Carrier. However, the Radar system they decide to use is designed and sold by a Japanese company. So even though the U.S. builds the Aircraft Carrier, a Japanese company is seeing profits in its construction. Now this Japanese company must pay taxes to the Japanese government = profit for the Japanese government. Get it?

The Effect - What this all means is that when your opponents buy stuff, the indicated portion of the resources they spend goes into your pocket.

I am less clear on Insurgency, but it looks like it causes your opponents trader ships to occasionally become pirate ships. I guess the Insurgency research sets up communications with your opponents merchants, allowing you to manipulate/pay/threaten them into rebelling.

Alright, thanks for that, by the tooltip of pervasive economy I thought it meant that whenever you buy something, you get a tiny amount of other empires money, thanks!

Insurgency effectively causes small groups of marauders to spawn and attack other players' systems from time to time (even if marauders are off).

Ah, thanks for that, i wondered why i was being attacked by pirates even though marauders was off.

I miss the old days when I'd research it, leave my PC for about an hour, and the YOU WIN screen comes up
