PopCap Games Buys Another

Casual Consumer Portal Maker, Developer SpinTop Games Acquired

PopCap Games has made another acquisition today, the second in the span of under a week. Hot on the heels of their Retro64 purchase comes the absorption of SpinTop Games that includes the online consumer portal, game catalog and the Vancouver-based development house. SpinTop will continue to be managed by its co-founders Craig Hamilton and Duncan Magee.

"We're happy to be adding SpinTop's strong roster of casual games, a Vancouver studio and a direct-to-consumer portal to our existing business," PopCap CEO David Roberts said regarding the deal. "The acquisition provides new publishing opportunities for SpinTop's games, and strengthens a distribution partnership we established with SpinTop last year."

Magee added, "We're thrilled to become part of the de facto leader in the casual games market. PopCap's focus and outstanding track record of creating the biggest brands in the business made joining this winning team an easy decision for us." SpinTop will continue largely on its same path, growing its online consumer portal for first- and third-party titles while continuing to develop new games that will be published by PopCap Games. Games from SpinTop include Mystery Solitaire, Mahjong Escape, and its most recent release in the popular hidden object genre (remember the magazine 'Highlights?'), Mystery P.I.: The Lottery Ticket.
