Microsoft, Peter Moore and Electronic Arts have all confirmed that Peter Moore has left Microsoft to head up EA Sports. The rumors started yesterday via Kotaku and were confirmed late in the day by all parties involved. Moore resigned from Microsoft for personal reasons, stating that he wanted to head back to Northern California with his family. The shake up has caused Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft, to put Don Mattrick, whom is a former executive of EA, in Moore's old position.
Microsoft and Bach gave Moore strong support in their press release stating: "Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go," said Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "Since that time, he presided over the global launch of the Xbox 360™, spearheaded a revitalized and rebranded Games for Windows business, and helped steer the console's ascent."
Moore also commented on his move via the EA press announcement: "The people at EA SPORTS have created one of the strongest brands in the entertainment industry and John Riccitiello is building an organization which will extend the company’s leadership to new platforms and new audiences all over the world," said Peter Moore. "I couldn’t be more excited about joining EA and moving my family back to the San Francisco Bay Area."
Even rival company Sony had something to say about the move. President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton focused on the future rather than the past stating: "We wish Peter the best of luck in his new role at Electronic Arts and look forward to working with him. We have an outstanding relationship with EA and their sports products have been incredibly successful on all our platforms. I am sure this will continue with Peter now at the helm." Following the announcement came the Internet sleuthing which turned up a SEC documentation filed by EA on the move. NeoGAF dug up the juicy details that state Moore's guaranteed annual salary of $550,000 including a $1.5 million signing bonus for the (EDIT: Basketball superstar) game executive. On top of these paltry sums, Moore will have till September 3rd to settle into his new pad and an additional $330,000 from EA to cover moving costs.
