Finished first game but don't know quite what happened at the end.... (possible spoilers)

My position was dominant in most respects. One of the three stars in my home sector suddenly got taken over by some ancient evil force (whats that about?). Ships from this star system's two planets (Which used to be mine) then creamed me across the tiny galaxy I was playing in. They also wiped out anything that got in their way. At the same time all the galaxy's sectors were going over to an independent minor race. At about the time the last sector changed sides and the whole galaxy map was yellow OR my last system was nobbled, a cut sequence started up showing an officer telling his boss "they are all gone.." etc etc.A screen of scores came up which looked like I was the winner, I think, I'm not sure because the game crashed while loading up to the metaverse.

So basically I think a random(?) event occurred which led to a new AI player rolloing across the galaxy and just as I was utterly destroyed I think I was declared a winner. Can anyone with more experience interpret please? Thanks.

I'm playing a download version till the cd and manual arrive - apologies if answers are in there.

Was it the Dread Lords? They are showed up and stomped me. Before they arrived there were a couple of messages about a religious cult seeking a key, then they were freed from their crystal and then I had pretty much the same experience. But hey, you would be cranky to if you had been imprisoned in a crystal for several eons. Of course, I am now a Dread Lord looking for some payback on the Arnor. :)

It seems like they wiped out the rest of the major races before they got to you, so, in effectm you won by military conflict. Since the Dread Lords are technically a minor Race, they can still be in play when you win by military conquest. The movie you describe is the Military Conquest movie. If you are crashing while submitting to the metaverse, see "Brad's ongoing GalCiv update thread" in this forum. There is a new .dll to dowload that will fix the problem. If, after installing the new .dll, your scores do not show up, try quitting the game, re-registering your player on the metaverse page at the GalCiv web site, re-loading your save game, and submitting again. This has fixed the problem for many of us.

Hope this helps!
