On a large size scale... what I'd like to see expanded

How to make the game of the Century!

These are just things that I enjoy in the game that I'd like to see more of.

a) Enhanced tech tree. Playing tons of space games over the years I've come to love having tons of choices for tech research. Dev's, look at SE IV and Sword of the Stars or the MOO lines for ideas. Having mulitiple ways to go enhances replayability immensely.

b) Better UI for fleet control. As I'm growing more comfortable with larger and larger games I see a growing need for a Planet list and a fleet list on the UI screen. Scrolling up and down with both on the same list makes it a chore getting what you want where.

c) Settled planet variety. Right now we face AI empires, how about a random inhabited planet or two that's not aligned? Through's negotiations and culture influence into a big new light if we could get allies. Or a berzerker planet? Or a ....

d) Effectiveness of the battleships needs to be increased. Make them truly fearful, right now a mob of 10-20 cobalts can take a battleship out. If they are the Queens of the fleet right now they can't go anywhere without their attending court of smaller vessels so they don't get mobbed.

e) Involve the player in the DESIGN of large warships. Part of the allure of Dread Lords is the player designing their own warships. You include this aspect in sins and you'll have the wargame of this century. It'll turn into the new Elite.

f) Do things to enhance movement within player empires. Warp Gates, Teleporters, Warp Speederupers or something like that so we can shuffle our forces around to meet threats. Hey,if the pirates somehow can come into our back worlds from nowhere, they must have something like that.

g) Players of empire games love micromangement, but there's a point where it's too much. Namely, in combat. When a grouped mass of our warships enters a system the ships shouldn't peel off to find their own targets! Especially with a command and control cruiser present! Let us have Group commands that include focusing fire on individual targets, commands for defence/offence (homeworld 1)formations, commands that will focus on target order (No, don't run into those 9 gauss cannons!   ) something along the line of frigates/crusiers/fighter/bomber groups, etc.

H) Make the contest for the planets more than nuke them into oblivian. Include a side game of planetary invasion (a la Moo II) where we can conquer cites and population, glean tech breakthroughs through sifting the rubble, etc.

I) Angry Critters with an Attitude in Space... How's about a space monster or two? They were cool in Star Fleet Command and Moo... Would make those pirates really look wimpy

Finally.. the games on my hard drive. I still have MOO 1, love to make a small snub fighter zerg... I still play SE IV, just to see if I can try another tech approach... I still play Sword of the Stars, love the tech tree ship design elements. And ... here's the oldest... I still play Star Legions, by Mindscape. A little dos game that has planetary invasion down pat.

Just my 2 cp. Thanks for an excellent game so far..!

Thats the way the want it to be -- cap ships are NOT the be all end all, you need support units.

Devs have already said that thats outside the scope of the game.

Thanks for your comments bcasner, ironically a lot of what you are suggesting/asking for is actually in the game (not the beta 2 version obviously) or is already planned. We just can't put everything out this early However, one of the things that unfortuantely I'm pretty positive won't be in the game is surface combat and a Dark Avatar style ship design as that just isn't feasible in a real-time game. However, due to common requests we are exploring very likely ways to expand ship customization in Sins beyond choosing new abilities and unlocking new ones from the research tree. Ofcourse, if you are into modding it is very easy to design any ship/weapon/race/ability/research topic etc that you want in Sins. Oh, and I love Moo and wow is Star Legions ever old! Are you using a non-windows default DOS emulator to get it to work?

Believe it or not when you use the Windows XP program compatability wizard and set it for Win 95 it runs Star Legions quite well.

I was using Dosbox, but tried the XP program comp. wiz just to see and it actually runs it better.

I appreciate your response, even in a single player real time game I'd devote time to ship construction design. Or perhaps design outside of the game and introduce to the fleet when I come on...??

I'll send you all the chocolate you can eat for some ship customization and design options!

Just some thoughts
