Dark avatar combat

Can someone tell me whether the description provided by Kyro on space combat in Dark Avatar is still acurate? What has changed with the updates 1.6 and 1.7? Are there still any problems? Any good strategies/tips?

What has changed with the updates 1.6 and 1.7

Update 1.6: off-type defense bug finaly killed. Off-type defenses slightly improved.

Update 1.7: unknown, not out yet.

Any good strategies/tips?

The way the combat works in DA now seems to be flaved. There are two extremes the AI can't properly cope with:

1) Put on a single ship enough defenses to block all attack from your opponent's fleet and your ship becomes virtually invincible. Works until the late game.

2) When you can't match the attack, you throw all defenses out of your main warship, fill it with only best weapons and one-two engines, never put them in fleet, and go on the rampage again.

The bigger the hull, the better results you'll get in both cases.

Thanks for the info. Could you or someone else explain what the off-type defense bug is? Further, apart from the two extremes you explained, what are good military strategies? Are they any different from DL? Which combat system do you like more?

Off-type defenses never depleted in combat. To some extent they were actually better than on-type defenses.

what are good military strategies?

Same genaral strategy that was in almost every 4x game. Kiss-up the strong, conquer the weak, undermine whomever you can, make them fight wars, so you're free to conquer weaker and/or losers.

Which combat system do you like more?

Tne new one has too many exploits and unlogical consequences. I'd rather see the old one coming back, with some small improvement with defense rolls. Like: better defenses should roll from 1, or 2 to its max value, so a ship with 20 ultimate armors would roll from 40-200, not from 0-200, when it is attacked. Well, just my wish.
