another new fan of GalCiv....

Greetings everyone. New player to the game. I couldnt wait to find a retail copy so I just bought it online last night and downloaded everything. I was lost for the first 2 hours or so but slowly started figuring it out.

The game is great so far. I have a couple quick questions off the top of my head for anyone that has a second...

1) The govenors..I see a couple names there and like a guy named something Ford is selected I think? How do they exactly work? Im not quite seeing what I should do or what I can do with them.

2) I was a bit surprised and confused that once I took a colony ship a ways to try and colonize a new system. I get there and it says somethign to the effect I am too far away from friendly planets or something to be able to do that. I eventually solved this problem by building a space station in the area. But....what is the general rul of thumb on the distance a colony ship can colonize from a friendly planet?

3) One weird question.... for some reason whenever I click on the planet view of a planet the music sound goes to like 50% or something. Kinda weird. Is this intentional or does anyone else get this?

4) What exatly makes up the expenditures on a planet? For instance I have a planet that says the incomes is like 1 and expenditures are 7. So why is it 7 and how is best way to change it? Is it because of things im manufacturing on that planet or is it something else? Just not sure Im clear on this. Sorry if that is a confusing question.

Anyway...Im sure I have about 50 questions....but I have answered some of them looking through boards. The rest Ill keep trying to learn.

1) governors are just build queues you can assign to a bunch of planets. they have no AI or anything.

2) each ship type has a "range" value (colonyship is 1), this is the maximum distance they can go from a friendly sector ( needs to have a planet or starbase ). The minimap in the corner has an illuminated grid showing the range of the selected ship. certain techs n' stuff will increase this value.

3) bug?

4) improvements, production and research all cost money. lower your spend rate, increase your tax rate or build improvements to boost your "economy".

cheers
