What if gravity wells WERE gravity wells?

What if gravity wells WERE gravity wells?

I did a little snooping and it appears the different stars have room for extra abilities. Could it be possible to make a gravity effect be one of these abilities?

Right now, it seems clear that control of stars will be control of systems, and fighting off major pushes from enemy fleets will take place in solar gravity wells. Sadly this is becoming a matter of how much firepower can be poured upon ships before they can complete their secant of the circle, jumping out of harms way and towards the actual target system. The linear quality of this system just bothers me to some degree..

That said, what I Do NOT want is to see defensive fleets just falling into stars and blowing up. It would be interesting however, to see fleets that had to create orbital patterns to maintain distance from stars. It would also be interesting to see slingshot effects that could make defensive operations, or offensives for that matter, be more than kodiak intercepts.

gravity is there (magnetic ability for one of the tec cap ships) so, if you could use that somehow...
