Game won't run anymore DirectX 9.0a problem?

Hi I just installed DirectX 9.0a the other day and a few security updates for XP and now GalCiv doesn't seem to want to run right. I have a nVidia Geforce2 DDR 43.30 drivers, XP SP1, 512 MB RAM PIII 733. I had already run the game before but after installing DirectX 9.0a and a few other XP updates the game seems to not want to work. The desktop goes black a few times but then goes back to my regular desktop. On the taskbar Galactic Civilizations shows up and taskmanager Galciv.exe shows up. Anyone encountering what I'm describing? BTW the DirectX 9.0a is official as found on Microsoft DirectX page, which they released a few days ago. Other than DX 9.0a and the updates I had the same drivers and XP SP1 running and the game worked.

Hmm on a hunch b/c I upgraded a friend's PC aswell that has about the same exact setup I decided to install the new nVidia 43.45 drivers and reboot and it seemed to have solved the problem....my game ran again....hopefully it didn't have anything to do with me downloading in the background.

When was it you installed directx9a. If the above suggestion doesnt work, try reinstalling dx9a again, im not sure but someone mentioned a dx9a version with some errors in it was up for a while on the windows site before being replaced... if that was true you migth have gotten the error version when you installed dx9a. Otherwise it migth just be as simple as needing to reinstal grahpics drives or trying another one...

Yes I know about the version that showed up first but no this was the Final 9.0a version that is up now when you check Microsoft....for some reason 9.0a works fine with 43.45, but with the 43.30 only 9.0 worked. 9.0a wouldn't let me play GalCiv was always minimized.
