trade routes....troops....

got a couple of questions...I am playing my first game (really enjoying this game more and more...)....I have made my first 2 freighters, and I have sent them off to hopefully start a trade route...

Now, to start a trade route, all i need to do is send a freighter to another star system, right?

Also, where do I find out how many trade routes I can have total? I know I start out with a total of 3 possible...what screen do I go to to find out how many possible total trade routes i can have.

One more thing about trade routes: am i able to have more than one freighter on a trade route?

Now, what tech do i need to follow to get troops/transports....That is the only way i can take over planets, right?

Actually it seems to be the experience of many on this board that you really only start with 2 trade routes. Manual must be misprinted.

To build transports you need Impulse Drive, http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/40.htm. Later on, you need Battleship Technology to build combat transports (higher defense, can hold more troops) http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/13.htm.

As for troops, you already have them! Whenever you launch a combat transport, the game prompts you on how many troops you want. You'll want a lot to get control of a star system.

I still cannot really see WHERE it tells me exactly how many trade routes i currently can have....maybe i am just blind...?
