HELP! POLICE! There's been a theft!

Playing a different race and the ships I've created are gone..... Alrighty. Well I made some fifteen ships of varying detail and it took me like eighteen hours..... I may or may not be exaggerating due to the time shifting so strangely as I sat there, but regardless........ I am now another custom race. One I created for myself to use the nifty vessels and 'voila' the ships are gone. They arent in the templates or anything. I found them in the 'My Games' folder where all the saved games are. I just need to know what to do to make them appear for my current race. I dont see any difference in the files I made between different races. I have no idea how to tell. Anything anyone can tell me would be useful. Obviously..... I just mean, um..... thanks in advance. yeah, thats it.

If you change your race, you will likely change the hulls available to you.
They do not interchange.

Some share hull designs, some don't.
If you went from a race of one particular hull design to another of a different design, you will not have available to you the previous race's hulls (therefor, ships).

The 'time shifting so strangely as I sat there'...

This game does that, for sure.

'Are you sure you wouldn't like just one more turn?'

I did change the ship style in the middle. I don't remember which ones I used, however, I've only used that square doo-hickey to create my ships thus far (I make my cookies frim scratch, too). One would assume that since they were made with the empty square, which is avaiable in every shipstyle's shipyard, that they would be available in the template of all the races as the ships don't conform to specific shipstyle base hulls.

You know, normally I'm not this long-winded, but this damn game. I can't stop playing it. Having that much work erased would be enough to cripple the creative spirit of even the most adaptable, easy-going, self-expressive of the nuns of the Church of Heavenely Creaminess, but I think I'll wind up re-doing them all if I can't somehow import them into my mod via the mod folder or something.

Which brings up something else. As I said, the xml files (does anyone know anything about these things as it relates to the game?) of the ships I've created using the two different races, bear no marks of differenciality between them aside from the names. I wonder how the game knows which civ you were when you built the ship and if it can be modified. Sorry for the long post. Actually, this is MY thread isn't it? I am the ruler of this thread. I created it and gave it life. Without me, this thread wouldn't even have been an idea in the first place to be expressed in typed words. Not that others wouldn't have had the same issue or problem, but they wouldn't asked exactly as I did. Crazy to think about. A little upbeat attitude and you validate your existence in life through the forums of a video game. I'm not on drugs, I swear.

Whether or not you use the actual hulls. The ships you create get the hull prefix of your current set and will only show in games whilst using that style. There is a way I believe to alter the .xml or config files to get it to show in all games, but a modder would have to give the rundown of how.

Im from Michigan..... is that what you mean? Or do you mean where am I coming from? As in, what do I mean. Wait a minute. uh........... what do I mean? Gimme a second..... okay. yeah. yep. From Detroit. Originally. So, a modder, huh? Where do they hang out at? Round here someplace, eh? The prefix you refer to just isn't there. unless you mean the S4_UD. In which case, I've played with them a bit to no avail. I wonder if the prefix of S4_UD or S6_UD or whatever is referenced elsewhere. like in the actual game save file. That would a pain wouldn't it? I'd have to just say screw it. Thanks loads for the replies and help by the way. I do appreciate it.

you'll have to restart the game with a different hull type until you get the right one.

or get on your knees and beg kyro to help you lol

I got it sorted. It's the prefix of Sx (where x is any number from 0 to 9 for the ten races). I just changed the S4's to S9's and that did it. Now I just have to figure out how to make a custom ship style. The button is all-greyed out. Anyone have any ideas on that? Thx to DethAdder and Moosetek13 for your insight from experience thus far. Generally speaking it's impossible for me to get anyone to reply to my posts. It's been alot easier, though, since I stopped SWEARING IN ALL CAPS between posts. j\k

anyways......

Yay, something that i can help with!

Okay, start making a custom OPPONENT/ENEMY (not sure what it is in the game), and go to appearance. It wont be all grayed out anymore and you can make your ship style. Now when you get done with the style, just back out of the custom opponent screens back to the "pick your opponents" screen in a new game. Voila, the simplistic method of getting a ship template.

Hope it helps. If you have all of the ships needed to fill all of the ship positions I would love to check it out and see how they fare against my armadaz of doom! haha, jk, i will prolly give them to one of my conquerer custom races and watch them invade and dominate the universe haha.

Latah peeps,
Galen

Thanks Galen. I'm figuring it out as I ask. Therefore, I've decided to slow down the posting and see if my brain can continue to crank out the answers.   That's as far as I've gotten with the ship editing stuff anyway. All my questions have been answered and this forum is extremely useful! Thanks all for the help-out. I'm sure those that read my problems will get good answers. Let me list the resources I've found to aid those behind me.....

To the left at the top of this page there is a box entitled 'Forum Links'
In this there is a link named 'Modding'. There you will find all of your answers if you have the patience to look. This game is very forgiving of mistakes. More so then alot of games I've tried to mod before.
