Ship Yards...and some other stuff....please read

I don't know if someone else has already proposed this, if so, sorry, I do not wish to steal someone's credit, but this is my first post, and I don't follow the forums, but I have wanted to suggest these ideas ever since I started playing GalCiv II. The upcoming 2nd expansion is what prompted me to go ahead and post them

Ship Yards- Space Stations that can build ships

Here is how they would work: You build a ship yard with a constructor. Once it is built, you can assign the military production from planets and asteroid bases to the ship yard. The more planets sending resources to the ship yard, the faster the ships can be built.

Why I want this:

-It doesnt make sense to me that huge ships are being built on planets. They should be built in space with planets limited to only building smaller ships

-You could make ship sizes huge and what I hope will be included in the new expansion, death star size ships at the ship yards

-Another cool thing about this is that you could attack your enemies ship making capability by taking out their ship yards

-There are lots of cool things you could do with this: if you were limited to producing tiny, small, and perhaps medium ships on planets, then ship yards would become essential and you could cripple your enemy by sending in fast ships to attack their ship yards.

-Also, this would make having a bunch of tiny planets more usefull. You may have only 5-10 tiny planets, each one of which would take forever to build the large types of ships you need to fight a good war, but if you could combine all of their resources at one central location, a ship yard, then even races with crappy planets could mount a good fight.

On a Separate note now...

Planetary defenses and the ability to bomb planets.

I would like to see planetary defenses and the ability to bombard planets. I noticed there is going to be a planet killer now, and that will be nice because I wont have to invade every planet which is time consuming and costs me population. If I don't like a smaller race, I would really like to just be able to bomb it into oblivion.

-Planetary bombardment weapons can have their own tech tree

-I want to be able to build a planetary missle silo or something else that will take up a slot on the planet ground

-I also want to be able to build an orbiting Defense platform. It could be as simple as having the option to build "orbital defense station/platform." This platform would be like a space station, your first building is just the base, but as you continue to build addition "orbital defense station/platforms" then you would be able to continue to upgrade its modules just like a military space station. I like this idea for planetary defense more then having ships that just one by one allow themselves to be killed. I have destroyed so many enemies because I was able to destroy their ships one by one as the defended the planet.

I've mentioned it before.

I've suggested a "Drydock" starbase that can be built anywhere. It would have a default production output and would have station specific modules to increase production output, and could benefit from asteriod mining. Being able to benefit from asteriod mining, it would be able to make better use of those random asteriod fields in the middle than planets far, far away.

Considering the rumours (hopes actually) about the Terrorstars turning planets into asteriods when it blows up stars, Drydocks could become very useful.

We already have death star sized ships - Terror Stars. And they're already built in space - with constructors.

It would be better if you could only use asteroid mining bases, economic starbases, and 'factory modules' to supply MP to these shipyards rather than planets. Planets would need a new type of 'mass beaming station' improvement to do so, which would beam a certain percentage of their MP to a shipyard or another planet.

Also, since beaming MP leads to some loss, it would be advantageous to have shipyards inside asteroid clouds. However, I'm against the idea of only being able to build smaller ships on planets. Both planets and shipyards should be able to build all kinds of ships.

Similarly, we could also have space-based research centers, immediate repair docks(which use MP to immediately repair ships), and artillery platforms if you want to expand starbases.

I want a Industrial Starbase (Stardock) that can use planetary and asteroid production points to build realy gigantic huge ships!!

Okay for one lets me just say this Planets are huge Huge! I mean all of the Sci-fi ganra the only thing biger then a planet was the Death Star and the Dysen Spher. Note Ship Yard could be a good idea other then what we are ready have(IE Militay base Repir yard.)  But i think of doing this may be hard codded in to the game. so you may want to ask one of the guys form StarDock. But lets just think about this okay. On the fisrt episode Star Trek TNG the Enterprise-D one of the most powerful ships in Star Fleet was built in a orbital Shipyard. Orbital. Now most likely SD thought of the idea but disided not to do it and leave it up to the Planets, and thats probly why they add a shipyard in SINS. But it may or may not work.

but if it dose work i think it should allow Astro Miners yes but resores form several planets seems unrealistic. One, two tops.  And for Bombing that is dead been dead for a long time i think. But for protection you can make your own improvement or StarBase add-on
