Traded for some freighters

I got some freighters from a trade and I'm wondering what happens if I send them off to create trade route with a friendly civ, what exactly will be the "Source" system? When the freighter is handed over to me does its "home" system change to one of mine? Or do I have to run it back to one of my systems and *then* send it off to its "target" system? TIA

where it was built will be the "home" system for the trade route. but a single system can have multiple routes, so you should just build a bunch of freighters in you wealthiest or most remote systems.

Ouch. I didn't build the freighters, I got them as part of a trade.

I did this once, the home system is the Planet nearest to where the freighters are when you buy them. There might also be a slight chance that it is the planet nearest to the civ you bought the freighters from. But when I bought them, both those possibilities were the same planet.
