Hi all,

Just got back from a month in California. My mother-in-law died on July 8. My husband and I had to go out and settle her estate as he is the only living heir.

Ends up she took part in an experimental drug trial. It was some kind of new blood thinner. She was 87 and the doctors convinced her that if she didn't take it she would have a stroke. She valued her independence and still lived in her own house so she started the 'medicine.' Within two weeks she was dead. With her medical history she should never, never, never have been put on a thinner. She had bowel problems and ended up bleeding to death. What a horrible way to die.

After this experience, unless I was already on my death bed there's no way I would.

I have participated in a drug trial, but there wasn't enough evidence to convict.

Oops, wrong kind.

No, I wouldn't, unless I had a disease it was targetted at and there was nothing left to try except that experimental drug..

I take you haven’t had any luck with the combo therapy.

I had to do 60 weeks but it’s been 4 years still no sign of it in my blood.

My immune system is still revved up. I haven’t had so much as a sniffle for 7 years.

On one now. Trials of new medications are by definition risky. I can only hope she had the opportunity to be fully informed about the risks prior to agreeing to the trial; it's almost impossible to get into a trial now without that. My condolences to you on your loss.
