Remember That Your Marriage Is Your Most Important Relationship

Parents often succumb to the temptation to pour all of their energies and attention into their children. Then when the day comes that the kids are gone, Mom and Dad can only stare at each other blankly, with nothing left in common.
Take care that the parent-child relationship does not supersede your relationship with your spouse. Keep alive mutual interests apart from your children. Commit to a thirty-minute conversation at least once a week in which you do not even mention the children. Regularly participate in activities that you will enjoy together long after the kids have gone out on their own.
Long after the children are gone, you will still have each other.
