SoaSE and Paper Models

Hello,

I'm YessMasster from YessMasster's Homeworld Paper Models (http://hwmodels.ovh.org). I'm very interested in possibility of making paper models of SoaSE ships. I have seen the screenshots but have not played the beta.

From what i have noticed some ships are cubic enough to be ufolded. Anyways my questions are:

what is average polycount for ships?

are there much intercesting walls in ship meshes?

how hard would be to extract ship's model?

would it be legally right to make paper models of SoaSE ships?

best regards,
YessMasster

I just checked out your site, that is some very cool work!!!

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. There is a wide variance in poly counts. Most are 1500 to 3000.
2. Not sure what you mean.
3. It is very easy, they are already extracted. We have a tool for viewing them as well which we'll be releasing before final.
4. It is legal as long as it's not for profit.

I think what he means is places where a given polygon travels "through" another polygon... I. E. if you have a cylinder that you want to place onto a slanted surface (i. e. not at a 90 degree angle) do you either slope the end of the cylinder to match the slope of the surface, or just push the end of the cylinder into it?

I think.

Just like Ron said, sometimes there are 2 surfaces of a model that intersect with each other (reside in same place at 1 or more points (sorry if that's too much of the explanation, but english ain't my 1st language)). It was common problem in HW: Cataclysm ships.

It's quite obvious two pieces of paper cannot intersect with each other, thus if model have many of intersecting surfaces, which for some reason cannot be deleted and modification would be very hard, the ship is unable to be unfolded.

For a comparison, HW ships had almost no intersections, and were quite perfect for paper modelling.
