I'm lucky enough to have DishTV (Satellite) and get to watch BBC America. Granted we don't get the commercials but love the programming that they show.

I wish Marketing people would get more creative on a regular basis. From their viewpoint I might even watch them, which I rarely do at the moment as the "message" is usually the same boring one that the Client Firm bought into.

One of the most enduring UK ad icons has to be the Bulldog used for Churchill Insurance, very effective - and they end up with free plugs when people try to describe it

bobbyhundreds, the British humor is one of the reasons to watch, atleast for me. Yes it is different as is the language which alot of people don't understand. Just watch some episodes of Are You Being Served?.       

You really asked if I had any favorites, just a few. You have to understand some of the programs were shown on PBS (Public Broadcasting Services) which weren't/aren't current shows in England. BBC America is even a little behind somewhat plus we don't get every thing. By the way, I even like the news.  

These are the programs that I watch when ever they are show, even if I have seen them before. I'm giving consideration of getting DVD's of these shows.

No Monty Python in your list?

1967/68 living in Oregon, PBS (one of the 4 channels available) about 11:00 pm one weekend - turning the channels (literally turning the knob) trying to find something.... a show was on... some guy in safari gear (pith helmet and all) looking for a weeping tree... he heard some noise, looked through some bushes = a bunch of guy playing cricket against some Watusi - I'm like... cool (I had no idea)... 1st pitch was a spear through a shin (I'm thinking.... damn, what is this...), 2nd pitch was a bolo knife that took off the guys head... I'm running upstairs yelling... Dad! You gotta come see this!... at least he was amused...

Bichur, yeah I forget it, how you say! That probably was the first non-US program that I saw. Just could not get the humor in it at the time. A lot of years later, it was a whole different story.     

Torchwood starts here tomorrow.

You mean Saturday?    That's when it scheduled for on BBC America.  

Wow Philly,I didn't realise there were so many UK tv shows on American tv.It's cool and kind of reassuring to know that although at opposite ends of the world we can laugh at or be entertained by the same kind of things.
I used to watch and love A Bit Of Fry And Laurie,Stephen Fry is a true English wit and does a great show called QI here these days.
You will enjoy Torchwood,it's been a real hit here.  
I have some favourite US shows,The Larry Sanders Show is probably my all time favourite as far as comedies go and I used to love Cheers and Taxi,oh and Hill Street Blues.  
I can barely look at Monty Python anymore(although for me they are all time classics) as for me it's had the life sucked out of it through decades of people reciting the Parrot Sketch (and most other sketches too) word for word to each other after a beer or three at every social gathering be it bar,club or student common room.  
What about UK movies? have you seen Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz? We loved them here.  

I am not a avid fan of Monty Python, but just heard on the local radio that today is Monty Python day

Cadburys Chocolate.......Hmmmmmmm!!!! Yummy. Now that's one thing I miss since moving to the US. Yeah, you can buy it over here but the ingredients are not the same as the stuff they make in the UK. The 'Brit' version is so much more creamier. Not impressed with Hershey's. I found a 'Brit' shop the other day that sells 'Brit' Cadbury's and Crunchies too, it's very expensive but I guess an occassional self indulgent treat will not go amiss. The place also sells bottles of Ribena juice too. I love that stuff. Anyone else have a passion for Ribena?

I love the US, the people and the way of life over here but I get occassional 'pangs' for some of the 'motherland' stuff. I'm off to the mountains with some of my family and friends in a few minutes to go to a Highland Festivel and they've got a Guinness and Glenfiddich hospitality tent together with real meat pies. Should be fun

bobbyhundreds, it should probably be noted that they are all not currently showing. This is a list of shows that I can remember watching on TV. Early on I was only able to watch them on PBS and now I also have BBC America.  

Caught Torchwood last night, I liked it.  

I wonder if any of the American shows made it England.

Wow movies, sometimes that's hard to figure out if you are watching an American movie with British actors or a British movice with American actors. I'm going to have to think about it.

Loads of 'em   We have Paramount Comedy Channel on cable here so we get a lot of the comedy you have.
We just recently got Heroes on BBC which I'm really enjoying.
I tried to get into Lost but got a bit bored with it.  
My alltime,alltime absolute number one favourite is M.A.S.H.,it's the only thing I have ever bought a boxed set of and it still stands up as a classic I think.
It has everything,biting satire,slapstick,sauciness,tragedy and not to mention HotLips HoolaHan.
I'm a bit of a baseball fan too,and we get some highlights here on Channel 5.I don't follow one team in particular but I think it's great game to watch.

I bought it too! Watched like 5 episodes a day with a friend.... good memories!

I was like 8 years old when it went off the air. I think to whole of America tuned in for the last episode!

I can remember my Uncle Bert (who emigrated to Pensylvania) used to let me stay up late to watch MASH when him and my Aunt were babysitting me and my brother in the early seventies.Happy,happy days.  
The movie was truly great too and what a cast it had;Donald Sutherland,Elliott Gould,Robert Duvall, and Gary Burghoff (Radar) who I think was the only cast member to make it to the tv series,or maybe Klinger did too,I'm not sure.  

bobbyhundreds yes, Doctor Who comes on right before Torchwood no on Saturday night.

M.A.S.H. was one of the all time great programs. Still plays in reruns. I think the last episode still holds the record for people viewing.  

Wow, you like baseball. It can be an exciting game it he batters just don't try and hit homeruns everytime up. It's meant to be about the hit and run, base stealing, the squeese play, making the team on the field make mistakes by rushing their throws, throwing to the wrong cut off man. Oops sorry, kind of like baseball.  

Without cable, I have to wait . . . wait . . . WAIT for the BBC to put their shows out of DVD. I've loved the first two series of the new Doctor Who, and avidly await the release of both series three and Torchwood this fall.

Just in time for the holidays.

Hehe,yeh I know ,weird for an Englishman eh.  For me it has the same kind of subtlety and intrigue that cricket does here.Trouble is most englishmen can't see past their prejudices against American sports,but then I suppose it's the same when it comes to some Americans liking British sports.It's a shame because they don't know what they are all missing.  
Stangely enough my mum brought me a Phillies cap home from her trip to see my Uncle in Pensylvania many years ago and I guess that's when I started to get interested.  
He's retired now and moved to Florida a few years ago.
