Phase Space, and how not to use it

Travel might be slower, but it sure is free-er

Yes, well it seems I have encountered the most annoying bug ever. If it has been reported already I apologize, for then I am wasting everyone time, and forum space. But here it is.

The AI seem to have a tendency now to NOT use Phase Space, instead using normal space to travel to any system they want. Let me stress this ANY SYSTEM. So I had one of my plaents attacked, and I managed to defeat half the invading fleet, so the rest of the AIs fleet started runing away. They didnt do it through Phase Space though, instead they decided it would be fun to just keep going and going, and well they did. Worse yet they were still technically in that planet, so my garrison there proceeded happily to chaise them in normal space. Multiple times I had to call my units back to make sure they didnt wonder through the solar system forever.

It gest better.

About half way down the phase lane to another planet, the AI decided that it was taking to long, and started going on a diagonal path, to another planet that wasnt even linked to mine by phase lanes.

So now they had complete freedom of travel to any planet they wanted to travel too, and also immunity from PSIDAR. The only thing was that it took an average 10 - 20 mins longer to get anywhere.

I dont know if it is a bug, or if you devs are just trying to mess with us for asking (repeatedly) for there to be not set points in space.

yea i sort of mentioned this in another thread. not only where they so far out that i had to recall me ships. i had time to build 5 hangers 2 cannons and a phase inhibiter.

Probably the most annoying part of the game besides the slow travel times in gravity wells.

Eeek that is definately a bug. Do you have a save game of it happening?

that means they must have done it on purpose!

I do have a save game of this happening along with several screenshots. Where should I send the savegame file?

I think I have a save game, I am not sure. The fleet gave up eventually and returned to the grave well where it was defeated in short time. It was just very annoying because I had to keep track of the wandering fleet not knowing where it could go. The only bright side was that it was fairly small and posing no direct threat to any of my planets, the Marza did do sufficient damage where it landed though(being almost full level).

I've seen this to, when i ordered my ships to pursue, they followed them trhough interplanetary space and killed the enemy. After killing them, I ordered them elsewhere, to see what happened. They traveled all the way back to the original planet, then proceeded by phasejump.... Odd indeed.

My ships were able to phase space from the mid way location without going back to the planet, but they had to follow the phase lane.

That's a hell of a bug. Maybe you should figure out how to turn it into a feature?

I'd gladly give up twenty minutes of real-time in exchange for immunity to PSIdar interplanetary sublight travel.

Just don't do it interstellar; that would suck.

See... you should be able to leave a planet without using phasespace... such as if someone's using a phase space inhibitor to prevent you from 'warping' out... but it should only work to a certain range... and after that you should be able to engage your drive. Also enemy fleets should be able to phase right on top of you at any time.

I know I know... it's easier just to take it out entirely, but it would be nice if there were battles that happened in areas with no gravity well.

You arent getting the point, the ships who do this can travel anywhere from any place.

We might as well not have Phase Lanes if this is possible.

Thhis problem has returned in a recent game of mine my ships chaced a trade ship of the enemies that didn't phase space but instead continued sub light speed travel.

Also it seems that on random maps where stars overlap each other the game has problems with identifying where the planet that overlaps actually is, making no icons appear on the map for the planet and having no identifyable phase lanes.

Please send me a save game of this happening emperor, thx so much

Um... I got angry at the game cause it made me lose several fleets that way(i couldnt find them cause of the overlap didnt allow any symbols what so ever to show up).

I will try to re make this scenario, give me a day though

If it were any other game this would be a feature.

I thought the impulsing without phase jumping was fixed? Apparently not, because the same thing happened to me in several MP games on the areolan (spelling) sector map. My frigs were rallying to my main fleet, but decided to take the "long scenic route".

Good, I thought for a second I was going insane, I can't seem to recreate it yet.
