Minor Bug in 1.7 and a suggestion for the event log

Hi,

I recently downloaded 1.7 and I was reviewing my swank new event log when I noticed a minor bug concerning the legend for icons. The legend does not appear at the bottom of my screen, but about a quarter of the way up and it is superimposed other event listings.

Other than that - The game has been running fantastically. I also love the new lease pay-off feature.

I also have a minor suggestion regarding the event log. I'm wondering if you couldn't make icons for tech which were earned via trade?

Currently the event log lists all techs as discovered, but that isn't true. A portion of my techs, especially in early game, come to me via trade. I'd love an icon which listed a tech as trade, and a notice in the event log as to whom I traded for that tech. Also, in the same spirit, I'd like to see an icon for techs which were stolen.

It's a minor suggestion, but for some reason I think it's a minor tweak that would really work for me. Any one else feel the same way?

Sincerely,

Sounds good. I'd certainly like the log to show a complete record of when/how techs were acquired.

From my IRC log:

Sep 19 16:39:18 Raknor the legend with the icon description however is still misplaced in 1280x1024 resolution
Sep 19 16:39:29 Raknor at 1024x786 it's correctly positioned
Sep 19 16:39:31 Cari_Elf Raknor: yeah I forgot to get the artists to fix that
Sep 19 16:39:52 Cari_Elf it's the stretching code that's wrong

It's a new tab in the civ manager.

I like it .

One thing I think would improve it: The option to have it automatically save the log to a file at the end of a game.

Which doesn't seem to be in there AFAIK - but then again, GalCiv crashes whenever a game ends, and I may have missed it due to the crashing.

The crash, BTW, is a total and complete lockup of my computer. The mouse freezes and all hard drive activity ceases. I can't even use Ctrl+Alt+Del - and pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't even make the hard drive light up with activity - it's as if the entire computer is frozen.

But yeah, this new log looks very cool . Is it related to the story creating stuff that turned out to be too hard to create?

I don't know if you mean that as a criticism, but I think I would classify that feature as damn near impossible to create. I used to develop educational software, and one of the things I worked on was a feedback routine that kept track of everything a student did in the GUI and presented it as a readable list of actions. I don't like to think about the evenings, nights, weekends, and even vacation evenings with my laptop I spent trying to make that pig fly.

I don't have the beta yet, but I would be willing to bet the event log is related to the work they did on the story generator. Kudos to SD for getting any of it working! Saving the log file would be a nice additional feature.

Hey,

Found a new minor bug yesterday evening. I launched a colony ship to a planet with an established colony within two moves of my homeworld (Earth).

My colony ship (with a base movement of three) arrived, I disembarked the passengers, and then I was able to relaunch the ship. My last point of movement should then have been used up in relaunch, but it was not. My base movement was reset to three. Each time I landed, my base movement reset.

I was able to ferry over one billion colonists in the same turn with just one ship. I kept going to see if something would break. Nothing else happened, except that the blue highlight for selecting launch direction disappeared.

I then reset the game, by completing logging off. I reloaded my game from an earlier point. The bug was still effect. I was able to ferry large amounts of people between two close points during several trips in one turn. The launch direction blue highlighter disappears after using the bug. It reappears after a reset.

Sigh, gonna miss getting people from point A to B so quickly. If only my morning commute could work as smoothly as that.

Cheers,

Good Morning,

Noticed another bug last night - I had just completed research for the Advanced Market Center. I had two marketing centers completed on each of my three worlds. I checked the price on simply buying the available building upgrade - The first marketing center was listed at a price of 72. This was true for all marketing centers on two of my planets. On my third planet the second advanced marketing center (upgrade) was listed for a price of 458. It was an upgrade to a pre-existing building, why am I being charged full price?

Has anyone else come across this?

I just set more resources to social building and let construction happen normally.

Cheers,
