A discussion in ICO about Krosovs function

Alot of people were online yesterday and alot of people had fast paced games on 2v2 online. We were all discussing the role and function of the Krosov in an online game.

What we agreed on for the Krosov atm...
- The Krosov is built only once the player has already won. A mop-up unit.
- People arent willing to combine Krosovs to a fleet mid-game. Its better to do cobalt-cap.
- The krosov needs more roles to make it a more intergral part of the game.

Ideas we come up with...
- Krosovs should be Siege Frigates in every aspect. They should be good versus Structures.
- We feel that although they would beable to damage guass cannons significantly , their weak armour would make them not the perfect choice as appose to the LRM.
- Krosov is the sort of unit you want to use on a raiding mission to take out targets such as a Research Station or a Mine.
- Mines should be reduced to 500 hp.

- The Krosov should have a special ability called targeted nuke. This ability allows Krosovs to locko-n a nuke to a space-structure. Has an antimatter cooldown. Causes 800 damage to only structures.

well, to give a little more background on how the discussion came to be, we were playing a 2 vs 2 game and while one team was on the offensive and had a superior fleet the other team decided on bypassing the dead astroid of an enemy and going straigh for the homeworld and destroying as many structures as we could until the fleet arrived. in retrospection the raid was very successfull, as we destroyed a lot of structures and mines, but we also lost a capship each. plus, we could not really hurt the planet itself, because we needed the ressources for more combat oriented ships to even stand a chance.

but basically above post is quite correctly depicting the discsussion we had afterwards.

Krosov needs more something I agree. I never built one yet; worthless.

2 Sieg Ships per Player and you would have killed his Planet
I dont build much of them but 4 Sieg Ships eat my foes colonies like some guys Bugers @ Mc's and co ... 1 dozen in a row

I'm sorry, but my experience with the Krosov is that its very useful. Its a lot more powerful than cap ships at bombarding planets, if only because you can build them in numbers, and while its AI needs work so it doesn't rush in, its still quite useful.

I agree, but making it strong against civilian structures could be a plus that makes raiding usefull.

one wee little problem, either give it the 800 dmg nuke or reduce mines to 500 hp, not both plz <3

the 800 damage nuke would be overpowered period eet -- thats way to big a fraction of the HP of stuff like repair centers, gauss cannons, and hangars.

I try to keep 3 Krosovs in my fleet to eliminate the enemy planet as quickly as possible, before the ai mounts a counter attack. They are also good at distracting the ai including their fighters and bombers as they appear to be the prioritized target. By destroying the ai planet quickly, this frees up the rest of my fleet to deal with planetary structures. Their cost makes them easy to replace.

It may be good if they were more effective against structures, if this did not negatively impact game balance by making the attacker too superior.

4-6 is a magic number for going in quick and killing the planet and leaving. They are excellent as is, you just have to micromanage them to much... an AI problem.

Though i agree mines should be weaker.

I just prefer to leave them out of the system (with a small escort, as appropriate) then jump 'em in when the defenses are suppressed. Microing them in-system would work well too though.

It is quite effective to run a blockade system with 4 Krosovs, and say 10 Cobalts, maybe some LRMS and simply run two systems deep kill a planet and then find a new way out killing more planets.... have 3 fleets like that... Psssh you don't really need to fight the main enemy fleets if you just kill his planets.
