Spending and Manufacturing...

Am I looking at this idea correctly? If I get Manufacturing bonuses, it ends up costing me more money unless I get 'free' bonuses (like the 6+1)? So unless my economy is capable of sustaining increased Manufacturing, I shouldn't necessarily get it?

In otherwords, it isn't the slam dunk that it is in Civ?

No, it's not. It'll cost you 'some' more money, but a +x% increase won't cost +x% more. You get 1/3rd free for planetary improvements, so it's fairly easy to figure out if they're cost-effective.

However, production improvements will always reduce the percentage of production that you're paying for, so they're still a good idea.
