Future of Galciv?

Future of Galciv?

Is their any information public yet on the future plans for Galciv over the next year after publication?

I know that their are plans to update the product with new AI routines, UP resolutions, etc - but anything besides that? A more modular unit system like Alpha Centauri would be nice...

thanks,
Daniel

Brad,

One way the predetermined order for the governors' lists could be done is to have it show the currently researched and available projects and leave the lines for the unavailable projects blank. I already leave blanks where I expect to add projects into the list now and having blanks in the list doesn't cause any problems that I have seen.

Thanks for the reply.

I like that idea of creating a list with gaps that I can fill in as I research new techs. I'll give that a try next game.

Let me clarify that point 4. I was thinking more along the lines of a user defined list. (text file?) That a veteren player could input (link to?) based on his own whims(strategy). Not suggesting a predefined within the game list. Perhaps saving the last list when a game finishes, or remembering the list from the last game?

Hi QLORD!
I have also played around with using 3 govenors;
Mr. Ford focused on the economy / manufacturing
Ms. Kolaz focused on ship building
Dr.Marshall for class 14 planets, to make them livable morale/habitat focused)

In a sector with multiple star systems i try to have a least the first 2 govenors selected. I guess i'm just the old guns and butter and have it my own way type of player :)

IMHO I think it might be hard to manage 3 govenors lists

I have been playing around with the idea of leaving spaces for projects and I am finding it a bit tedious to do it without a saved or editable list. Addinng a project to the list puts it in the first blank line. Moving it to the place you want it causes projects that are in the list to move up one line when the new project is moved down past it.

Conclusion: Without full support for building a complete list in the user's desired order, I find building my lists with spaces in them somewhat more useful than adjusting them the old way, but a bit of work that distracts from the playing of the game.

Any chance for this idea in 1.1?

Well, I understood LAN or Internet Multiplayer was not a priority, and I agree with the reason.
But can we hope to see in the Expansion (or earlier) a HOTSEAT Mode ? Please ? :sniff!: :sniff!:
I usually played MoO2 in Hotseat with my girlfriend or/and my brother.
And believe me, it's far more interesting to play that kind of game in Hotseat that in Lan or on the Net.
Because when it's not your turn, you can watch what the others do, learn, and chat.
So please, if you don't make a complete MP game, just make a Hotseat mode :)
For the sake of my beloved one ;)

Since we all know Software Piracy is the number 1 sports in the world (I just got my free copy of MOO3 through DONKEY), Galciv's approach is SUPER. No copy protection, just give paying people more and better stuff! I'm am a paying member of drengin, and I dl MOO3 only to verify if it is worth buying. This is how it should be, if you buy a coffee machine that doesn't work you bring it back. But unfortunatly this is not how it works with software, at least not here in Europe. Once you open the box, no way to get your money back. As a major industry Software sellers should accept the fact people who are not happy with the product have to be able to give it back. So better Tryware, Shareware or even better the approach of Galciv: paying customers are happy so give them more! LOL

agreed. I play hotseat with my best bud while sipping a few brewskies or with my girlfriend. It would be great to have that option.

I already said in the past when we had the discussion about MP/internet that hotseat would fit in perfectly.

Who knows it might ever get implanted, if not I won't mind either.

Putting Multiplayer in a game is complex. You almost have to design from the ground up for it.
I would not expect to see multiplayer in Galciv.
What might happen if Galciv is successful is that a new game based on Galciv with multiplayer will be developed.
This might not make some of you happy but the focus of the game is single player.
I think you will find this is one of the best single players games on the market.

If stardock decides to do a Multiplayer Galciv I would expect them to develop one of the best multiplayer games on the market. That is just the way they are.

I wouldn't save never to multiplayer in GalCiv but pretty unlikely.

We do have a multiplayer 4X game design called Galactic Federations. It has a much simpler UI and is real time.

The problem with doing multiplayr for us is, none of us like playing turn based games multiplayer. If we're going to do a 4X gmae that's multiplayer I'd rather do a different game that while similar, is designed with multiplayer in mind.

GalCiv is about elevating the individual player. I think that's what people will remember about it in the long term. So many games these days sacrifice so much for multiplayer. That's why I wanted to do GalCiv. I wanted to make a game that people (like me) could sit down and know that everything was designed for the single player experience.

Yes, and like I said, I agree with you Frogboy about pure Multiplayer Game.
But Hotseat isn't really MP, since, first, there's no need to develop Network code, it's all on the same computer.
Second, you can't play Hotseat with a Real Time Game (obvious, he ? :) ) That's why I do think this mode perfectly fit with a game like GalCiv.
And, finally, as told before, playing a 4x game in LAN (or Internet Game) and Hotseat Game are really two different things ; I dislike the first but love the last.

And since the network code is thrown away, I might add that a Hotseat mode wouldn't be such difficult to develop : hey, just replace a computer by a human player, and that's it. No socket, no synchronisation, or whatever.

Well, I'm note sure I'll convince you, but hoped you'll see my point of view ;)
