Newbie questions please....need help.

Hi,
Just got the game. Actually read the fine manual. (Strange how even an excellent manual can be riddled with obvious typos)

Tried a game and ran into some newbie-type problems:

1-I'm having difficulty figuring out how to send my colony ships to neighboring planets to colonize. By neighboring I mean decent planets in the next hex over...not within my starting system.
I tried left-clicking on the colony ship and then right-clicking on my desired destination and nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?

2-My other starting ship, USS Hero, DOES seem to continually move towards its selected goal outside of my starting system but does not do so unless I double click on its name in the ship menu list.

I guess I need help with the basic ways to move about.

is the colony ship out of orbit? If it is out of orbit, do you have colonists on it? A left click on a ship space and a right click on the destination point should move the ship. If it is OUTSIDE the range of your ship you should get a message in a box staing that. Give more details if you still cant get it to go where you need it to.

1. If the ship's is in the one of your star systems, double click it to get a screen to load the colonists. Set it to a number greater than 0 (I stick with 100) and click launch. Once it's on the map, select it and tell it where to go. When it gets to an uncontrolled system, you'll get to name the system, then choose the planet to land on using the sidebar on the right side of the screen.

2. If you hit Turn, the autopilot will work before the next turn starts. If the ship reaches its destination, it will stop and wait for orders. I'd rather this happens at the start of a turn, but it's probably there so you can change a ship's order before it moves.

OK, it's creepy reading the same post in two forums. It's a weird kind of deja vu. Is there a glitch in the matrix?
