MVL Round 4 Draft and Discussion

Lets move on with what is sure to be the best round yet!!!

Hi guys,

Just thought we would move all round 4 discussions here, so no need to troll across three or four threads to find out whats going on.

For those that do not know we are going to have a draft this round. The five teams will get two (2) draft picks each, and beyond that i will randomly place the rest of the teams as i did prior to round 1.

The draft will take place in reverse order of the league ladder,

Team E
Team A
Team B
Team D
Team C

The only players not included in the draft is the 5 captains, as they will do the picking of players. That being said i need to appoint a captain to team e, and since this was discussed i will delay no further.

Silverbeacher is the captain of team e.

The team captains are,

Team A = Dethadder (2nd)
Team B = MarshallOneill (3rd)
Team C = Firebender (5th)
Team D = Kzinti (4th)
Team E = Silverbeacher (1st)

These players are exempt from the draft.

So if we can get on with it, Silver make your first draft pick, then follow on in order guys. I will record the teams as we go.

Once the draft is complete and the teams assigned, i will update this OP with the new teams, also once draft is complete continue on with out discussions here please, it will so much easier than having to check 3 threads.

Possible ideas:
- the character with the most games decides the minimum difficulty. If more than one character has the highest amount of games the higher difficulty counts?
- let's leave it to everybody's personal honor not to turn on cakewalk just to be quicker.

There are certainly a lot of things left to the honor system. Basically everything related to game settings that don't appear in your game when posted to the MV is something that's taken on honor. While difficulty level is one of those few things that can be verified, it's also something that can be very changable and dependent on settings.

Although I've played suicidal throughout, in the beginning I was sorely tempted to play slightly lower in these smaller games because frankly I do think they can be a bit more difficult than the gigantic abundant all type game. They certainly have far fewer resources. I wouldn't complain if others felt the same way and perhaps lowered their difficulty a tad because of this kind of reasoning.

It was clear to me that Fire's suicidal games have been of a exploratory nature and were done in limited situations. I would hate to end up discouraging people from trying harder levels just because it might force them to play in the league at a level higher than they are comfortable with. I'd just as soon leave the level someone plays at up to the person. I think it would become noticable if someone were to intenionally play beneath their level and it could be dealt with at the time.

This is certainly a reasonable thing. Clearly with the count as it is presently losing one person would force us to have one four man team and four five man teams. So the 4 man team may as well be the team that lost a man.

However it does point out a possible future concern. Certainly having one 4 man team and four 5 man teams is no issue. But what if we already had one 4 man team and four 5 man teams and the 4 man team lost a man early in a round leaving it with only 3.

I'll pencil something in about team sizes in the rule thread. Certainly until we see how folks feel about it anything I put in will be a proposal. In fact at this point the OP of the rule thread is still a bit in the proposal phase.

We still do have a 4 man team, but lost 1 of our 2 actual picks, which would theoretically put us at a significant disadvantage. It seems that was what Playjeff45 was thinking too (correct me if I was wrong). We'll go ahead as it is now though, if that's what everyone thinks is allright.

I don't think it will affect us too much. More of a challenge, We still have a very strong team, and between us we can come up with different strats and really give the others a good run.

Kzinti, since you still have four players you should be good to go, a little harder yes, but technically you're still on even ground with the other teams (since everything is based on averages really)....that being said, if at a later date in this round, god forbid, someone on your team is unable to submit (and makes a notice thereof), just remember to contact Neilo immediately so he can pass a ruling on what you should do. Please note that this is ONLY if you drop below four players.

I do agree with you Kzinti that it would seem your a little disadvantaged as you have lost a draft pick not a random selection. Obviously the draft picks are meaningful otherwise why would we have bothered. If this is an issue we could possibly have a "trade".

Kzinti, who would have been your pick if butterfly was taken? Pm me if you like since this is just and idea and not anything concrete, but if all parties are willing and it has the support of the league we might be able to do a trade for that player....thoughts guys?

Sorry to hear you can't play with us this round Butterfly, i do hope RL has not dealt too much of a cruel blow and that everything works out for you and yours. Take care mate, we will keep a seat warm for you....

i've no problem with a swap or even a "re-draft" if KP wants to pick someone else for team D that wasn't drafted before buttefly.

well....its not that I don't feel for Kzinti but...giving Team D a redraft means that a player must be moved from another team, and a different team ends up with 4 players. Unless the redraft takes the place one of the randomly selected players, which means even more moving around and also thats not really fair to the randomly selected players.

I truly understand where you are coming from but it would be no different than if Motti, Mumble, or anyone else had something unforeseen come up and force them to bow out this round. Actually, Team C came very close to having that happen with Mumble who was busy with some other RL stuff last round.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see you at a vast disadvantage to the other teams, and moving players around means we would need to hold up League play until everything was set.

I will suggest that if we have a new player join the League in this round it goes to Team D as that seems most fair.

I would actually like to have two picks, but I'll go with whatever the consensus seems to be. If there were to be a change, I was thinking I could get to pick one of the poeple who were assigned randomly to another team (so as not to steal someone elses pick!) and then lose to that team one of the people randomly assigned to Team D. Does that seem like a fair resolution? Thanks...

If everyone is happy with this, then by all means let's move on. Needless to say that if The butterfly returns he is most welcome to drop a game in...or if we get a new player it stands to reason that he/she will play for team D
