question about giving ships away

When i gave some ships to another race last nite in a game, i noticed when it came to be my turn again, the ships I gave him was sitting outside my systems....

BUT...

They were damaged....They were not damaged before I gave them to him, but they were afterwards....

Wondering why? Could it be i had some "things" in those ships (tech related stuff) that they didn't have, and it was ripped out or something?

Just wondering...

Also, got a question about the year of free updates...

After this first year is up, will i need to resubscribe to Drengin or Stardock or whoever to keep getting updates for this game? If so, will they take check via internet by then?

Thanks

I've noticed the damage before, perhaps that is a design decision, so an AI who you've just given ships to isn't overly tempted to declare war on you with them. :)

As for the updates, you've got a year to get ready to pay them.

Perhaps the ship keeps the current HP it had before you forked it over, but its max HP gets adjusted by the its new owner's abilities. If the max HP goes up, it shows up as damaged.

Cataleptic is correct. You'll see the same thing when you regain control of the Senate if you're a member of the War Party. The turn after you regain control your hit point bonus will be reinstated and suddenly all your ships will have only some of their maximum hit points.
Think this needs to be fixed so that when applying bonuses it does it based on the percentage of current/max HP. So if you get a +15 to HP and your ship is at 100% it should still be 100% afterwards.
