According to an email tip sent to Destructoid, Electronic Arts is in a bit of a tough spot at the moment. The once untouchable publisher recently lost their top third-party publisher honors to long time competitor Activision and are now being hit by sagging profits. In the face of the conflict EA has decided that its best to tighten up its belt, which means layoffs.

An internal email states that each and "Every studio, group and division of the company has been tasked to review its overall headcount and adjust its organization to meet the needs of the business moving forward." In fact the changes have already started in two divisions, the EA Redwood Shores studio is already having people transferred to Mythic's Virginia studio to streamline the Ultima Online franchise's production. On top of that both studios have already had to let go of members, including many UO developers.

Its highly doubtful that these are the last layoffs that EA employees will be experiencing. Calling for every group to look at their bottom line and only having two studios act on it will certainly not please the people at the top of EA's food chain. We will keep you posted as we hear about more layoffs and changes made on behalf of John Riccitiello's request.
