Does TA Beta being out imply that DA is finalized?

So with all the excitement about TA I'm wondering if this means that DA is finalized and no longer to be revised.

The reason I ask is probably transparent to anyone that knows me but to be explicit I have been delaying moving onto DA for a couple of reasons. One is that it seems that DA has pretty much been a moving target. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for updates and fixes but since it usually takes me longer to play a game than the life of the average DA version, I'm generally not all that interested in instantly downloading the latest revision of the game.

The second reason is that I'm not a big fan of SDC. I have nothing per se against SDC, I just simply object to having to have ancillary programs installed on my PC whose sole purpose and benefit is to update a program that I actually use.

Anyway for the above listed reasons I have stayed with DL v1.4x because that's the most recent version of the game for which a standalone installer exists (or existed).

I did buy DA during the Beta period approximately 1 year ago and I did purchase and have the initial DA CD.

The real question I have is if I buy TA including a CD will I at least be able to get to the final versions of both DL and DA without having to use SDC by first updating my GalCiv2 installation using the initial DA CD to get DL v1.5 and the initial version of DA, and then use the TA CD to get the initial version of TA and the final versions of both DA and DL?

Also is the DL that will be part of TA identical to the DL included in DA all of which should be pretty much functionally equivalent to DL v1.4x?

V2.0 for all GC2 lines is still down the road after TA's release. If there is an end to updates, it won't be before then. As has been noted before, we do plan to do a standalone patch for that release.

I remember you mentioning V2.0 but didn't really understand what that meant. So does this mean that DL, DA and TA will all be released at some finalized V2.0 version all at the same time?

In any case although I think there may have been some minor change to DL initially for DA compatability and then perhaps again for TA compatibility, overall I think it's a true statement that DL has been functionally pretty stable since v1.4x.

I'm guessing but I think to assume the same for DA is not too unreasonable. That is that there may be some change in DA for TA compatibility but that basically once TA is out then there will be little change to DA.

As long as my assumptions aren't known to be incorrect and that by buying TA and getting the CD will "most likely" get me to a SDC free, mostly stable DA and DL then it's well worth it to me to buy TA now for that purpose. If it's known at this point that installing the DA CD then the TA CD won't work without the intervening SDC updates then I probably shouldn't do it, however if there's a chance the path that I outlined will work then I'd just as soon spend the money. Regardless of what else happens I will be buying every version sooner or later anyway.

So what's your best guess of what I can get out of installing the DA CD and then the TA CD?

That's my impression of it, though I'd have to confirm.

I expect that that will work just fine--after all, the CD option is primarily for those who can't download it anyway. It's just a question of what versions you'll get. Probably 1.8d for DA (the current version plus the save-load crash fix).

Thanks. I haven't been keeping up too much with DA versions however I think from the description I probably would want the save-load crash fix.
