Can someone explain Combat Advantage?

Sorry if it says somewhere in the manual or on-line. I looked (but I am tired :). How does it work. If you have an advantage of 4 or 7 or 34 (I used mass drivers) what does that do? Mulitply the number of people attacking or something else?

For that matter, is there any explanation of how combat actually works? I mean, do I need 1 for 1 (about) all other things being equal to win?

If your advantage is listed as 4 to 1. You can bet on probably killing 4 of them for every 1 of tour soldiers lsot.

So, if you modify it by having the enemy's changed by -20% to -40% you can expect that an average of 4 to 1 would change to about 5 to 1 up to about 7 to 1.

If it changes their population it would amount to statistically the same outcome.
