It's too easy to invade planets... We need Planetary Defenses !

During each war, as soon as the space battle is over, 1 lone transport with 1 B "troops" (they were civilians when boarding, lol !) is enough to take over a 6B+ populated planet, at equal tech, and using "traditional warfare".
To the contrary, destroying a StarBase is much more difficult ! They have >150 hp and defense at least 5, they eat Corvettes at breakfast ...

It just doesn't seem right, and make relatively unexpensive ships much too important compared to very expensive planets. One space combat lost and blam you can lose very quickly your main systems, game over ! :(

What would be nice is to be able to give the planets a "defense rating" via building "Planetary defenses", using either Constructors, Social Projects or just plain Tech adding to a base defense value "at start".

And BTW there should be tech reqt to un-traditional assaults, how could a starting civ barely able to build starfighters make "Mass Drivers" ? "Mini Soldiers" should also be a tech item.

Just my 0.02 :)

Well Cptn Chaos and Nirvana, thks for your fast reply. I'll try stacking my transports in a huge attack. :d
Today is a good day to die...
See you

Pablo

I just noticed, you wrote combat transport. Is there a diference between them and normal transport (except defence, hitpoints)?

Combat Tansports can hold more too i beleive, 5Bn vs 1bn for transports, only mentioned them as they were what i was using in my current game

Continued to invade in my games, 3 Altarians planets in my belt now ;) 1B troops slaughtered 6B pop each time, maybe it's the easy diff setting...
And I finally found a way to properly defend my planets : defensive SBs make BattleAxes look like Dreadnoughts ! :D

When stacking transports, does making them a fleet make a difference.
I ask, because if you fleet constructors, and build a starbase, the first builds a starbase and the others upgrade the starbase. But if you just stack them, and tell each to build a starbase, you end up with two starbases in the same square, which seemsa little odd.

Back to the original topic... Quite a lot seem to effect ground combat... morale seems to be in there, as well as overall tech level. I wouldn't be surprised if influence on the planet makes a difference either. Its also quite random. I'm just trying to come up with reasons why people seem to be having such different experiences myself.

Its obvious your main defence should be in ships. And, considering population is your principle resource, invasions can still be pretty expensive. I have no problem with the way ground invasions work at the moment.

Morale affects the defence of a planet if you choose one of the option called something like "information warfare" then depending on the amount of % of unhappy people, you will be able to make part of them help you attack instead of defending ...

And it works much more than in Irak ! :D
