Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

If your claws can grasp it, then it is rightfully yours. - Kzinti proverb

A salute to all those heroic t'kzintar who have made this empire a resounding success. Our conquests continue and the galaxy will never know peace!

One thing I'd like to ask, how do the Kzinti gain recruits at the rate that they do?

We threaten them with being eaten and they usually capitulate.  If they dont then it's dinner-time!    Sentient species taste better...

Not far from the truth.    I can't speak for everyone, but I joined because of the atmosphere and story line.

Also, Kzinti Patriarch has some charisma that I can't put my finger on. Maybe he should run for office.

Firebender, hmmm....that sounds sort of spicy and unusual. You dont want to get eaten do you? ;)

Thanks for the compliments about the empire Motti. :D I'll have another bit of story sometime soon.

You're probably joking about politics, but it is something I've actually thought about, and rejected. I write political/social commentary as a hobby, but actually being a politician is such a slimy smarmy job, plus I hate being in the spotlight. In a political role I'd prefer to be behind the scenes devising policy.

If you don`t make it into politics you at least can tell your prospective employer that you have enormous leadership abilities - you once were a great Patriarch of a huge interstellar Empire called "Kzinti Empire". That does extremely well on a job application i think ;D

Hehe, only if they are looking to hire insane people. I can imagine how that would go over!

hey KP, are you saying that I'm a smarmy, slimy person for doing politics?
Not at all....yet. ;) Right now, you are accumulating knowledge and facts about the political system, and havent had much of a chance to actually participate to a great degree in the political process. If I were to go back to college, I'd go for a political science degree this time around myself. I think anybody that does become intimately involved in politics does have to get "down in the muck" to some degree to be successful. Unfortunately, that is how the system works. Also, there's the old saying that any sort of power corrupts (and ultimate power corrupts ultimately), which I think has a lot of truth in it. But I do think that if you do use your political science degree to actually go into politics, you will do quite well at resisting the pull to get "slimy & smarmy". I have confidence that you wouldnt lose your integrity. :)

I know that our empires may hate eachother, but good job on getting to be #1 on the Meta, but you guys beating the Galactic Diplomats questions us Geckodons, but still you did take them out, they had it coming. We plan on joing you guys in the Metaverse by using altenative methods of galactic conquest.

Thanks Sethpenguin. We dont hate the Geckodon Alliance, we just really enjoy chasing around all those little squiggly lizards, and eating them. It's the natural way of things. ;) So that may make you hate Kzinti, but we're glad to have such entertaining and abundant prey animals...those wiggly tails are just so alluring!

This post makes a couple of points that I find troubling. Being a child of the 60's, I personally recommend an "attitude adjustment". I'm not sure folks today understand the reference but if you do then I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about. :)

First off in my own humble opinion there is no place for hate in the Metaverse. Personally, if I had to choose between a good teammate and a good opponent, I would choose a good opponent. A good teammate is both a brother and comrade the value of which is hard to over-estimate. But without a good opponent there is simply no point in battle at all. What honor accrues from beating up on the weak and helpless? The stronger your opponent, the greater your victory.

However, in the end there is no ultimate victory. The battle hasn’t ended merely because Kzinti has reached number 1 in the Metaverse or even because they’ve been number 1 in the AltMeta for four months. The battle is still ongoing and the quickest way to lose is to assume that you’ve won.

I was among the first to congratulate the Kzinti for their accomplishment of reaching 1st place in the Metaverse. The Kzinti do the Diplomats and all the other empires honor by being worthy opponents. However, the battle will continue.

The other aspect of the reply I found troubling was the “they had it coming”. I’m really unsure what prompted this. To the best of my knowledge no Diplomat treated 1st place as some kind of exclusive right nor did any Diplomat display any kind of arrogance over the position nor did they look down on any other empire simply because at the moment we happened to be in first place.

I’ve been a Diplomat since shortly after I started playing the game approximately 20 months ago and during that time the Diplomats have spent more time out of first place than in it. However during that time period one thing is definite and that is that no empire has been competitive for as long as the Diplomats have been.

Before my time the Diplomats and the Overmind traded 1st place more than once. When I started there were the Orcas who exchanged first place with the Diplomats a number of times. Then came HCH and again 1st place went back and forth. Now it’s Kzinti’s turn. The Diplomats say welcome and congratulations. However, my only question is where are the Overmind, the Orca’s and HCH now? I can’t say where Kzinti will be in a year but I can guarantee where the Diplomats will be in a year. I can’t guarantee we will be number 1 but I can guarantee that we will still be trying.

I understand that no Kzinti made any such statements about hate or “they had it coming”. I also understand that Sethpenguin and the Gecko’s probably meant nothing by the comments made other than normal good natured taunting. However I did have to say my piece in response. No harm intended. :)

Mumble, I think you are taking Sethpenguin's post too seriously. I think when saying that his empire hated mine, it was just some roleplaying of sorts. As for him saying the Diplomats had it coming, I dont know what he was talking about and just ignored that part of his statement. If you look at his other posts in various threads, you'll see that he often says puzzling or random things, sometimes to the point of being non-sensical. I've found this to be entertaining at times.

I wholeheartedly agree with all your points about competition being healthy and indeed necessary for the Metaverse to be viable. The Kzinti are #1 right now, but we and the Diplomats could easily trade places a few times in the near future. I am well aware of the rise and fall of empires, and plan to do my utmost to keep the Kzinti at #1. Like the Cylons from BSG, we have a plan... ;) As for a year from now, I still intend to be at #1, but we shall see what the future will hold, and thats part of the fun!

As the Diplomats have done so since their inception, the Kzinti will be magnanimous in any situation. Any who dont will be harshly cuffed about the ears. ;)

Sethpenguin, dont worry about your people being hunted to extinction, for on many Kzinti worlds special hunting preserves have been established where your species can exist in their native habitat. Your species will survive as long as there are hungry Kzinti who need entertainment and relaxation...

Mumble, I too think you took that a little too seriously...

Judging by these forums, I'm beginning to doubt any empire will still be rolling a year from now. The metaverse has helped keep the game interesting, but the reality is the game's short comings / bugs / lack of polish have got me to the point I can see not playing anymore at all.

The sad thing is I would never have said that about GC (on OS2, which I kept around just for the game) or GC1.

I just pray they get TA right, so this discussion matters at all a year from now.

Am I not allowed a bit of the role playing as well? ;p

Gallagher, maybe you need a break from the game until ToA is fully released and MV compatible. I first played GC2 (DL) maybe a year and half ago, but no Metaverse games. I played quite a few games, and then stopped and began playing some other games for a while. I went back and played Rome: Total War, which I had played a lot before, and also Medieval II: Total War....love those games! Something about forging the Roman Empire is especially captivating for me. Then DA came out and I created the Kzinti, and started submitting MV games. My interest in GC2 has not slackened, and I know I'll be around for the duration, running the Kzinti, and playing games. I may be playing some other things at the same time too. There is never enough game-time in the day! ;) I havent tried ToA yet, because I'm waiting for the MV compatability.

After re-reading your inital post Mumble, it still seems to me as if you were being serious. You are always very well-spoken (and very detailed), and I think your original post was quite clear. But thats just my perception and opinion, and either way it's allright...dont worry about it. :)

You've never heard a Kirk-ian soliloquy?

Every episode of the original series featured at least one, often more.

I was absolutely and totally serious about the points I made.

However, I didn't take Sethpenguin's comments *that* seriously. I took them to simply be the normal inter-empire taunting that can often just go fractionally over the line. I was in no way personally offended by his comments, I simply felt they expressed two points that are simply not in the best interest of the metaverse and to which I felt obligated to respond.

I'm totally serious about there being no room in the metaverse for actual animosity between empires. There has in the distant past been such actual animosity and I believe it does not serve anyone.

I'm also totally serious about the necessity of having skilled and honorable competition. Without credible competition playing in the metaverse is meaningless.

You seemed to agree with both of these points and that's good.

However, your "I think you are taking Sethpenguin's post too seriously" response seemed rather much like an admonition and in my opinion nothing I said deserved admonishment.

Again I am not taking any personal offense from such a slight admonishment and in all likelihood it was not even meant that way. However even if not meant as an admonishment I hope you can see that it could be easily be construed as one. In any case as you say ... don't worry about it. :)

What the heck happened with my above post? Somehow it got included as part of Kzinti's reply. I'm trying "Add A Reply" instead of using the reply button below the post to see if it works normally. In any case I'll be happy when these forums start working properly again.

[edit] No joy. Perhaps this is due to the unbalanced quote tag in Kzinti's post. Oh well. I wonder if this thread is Borked from now on.

I did put in a request for the web team and/or Kryo to see if they can fix the thread.[/edit]

Mumble, when I made my last post, the formatting was screwed up, and I couldnt even view the last page of the post. Every time I tried it crashed my browser. I immediately contacted Kryo to have someone hopefully fix it, and it looks like they did. Thanks for contacting them too. :) I often seem to have trouble with the formatting since the forum upgrade. Im glad the thread is working properly again.

As for what we were actually talking about to begin with, I think we've all said what we needed to, so I'm good with it.

Now I'm sort of wary of using the quote function...I dont want to break the thread again! ;)

Kzinti= Kay Zin Tee or depending on regional accent "Keh Zen Tee" would also be an acceptable variant
