some people can do the whole "put a bunch of the same piece in a row" thing and make it work, but IMO it more often just ends up looking lazy.

i guess in the end, if you want to do all the ship designs yourself, you should decide exactly how much you care about others' opinion. ship design is a really subjective sort of thing.

sure. a couple questions, first.

will your mod rely on KHSM?  i know Kryo prefers to keep his mod as a stand-alone installation, but i do tend ot use the invisible offsets quite a lot.

what ship designs do you need? i'm assuming you'll want ship designs for all the basic types of ship, but regarding the 'combat' types, are you looking for a particular number per hull size (such as 3 in the base game)?

No the mod does not use Kyro's Hull System mod. Also I'll email the Soul Sucker to you, just a heads up though, it uses the Korath ship style.

no need, i can pretty easily tell how you did it. i've got some interesting ideas for what a ToE ship style might look like. i'll try to get something built tonight as an example.

damn. all i've really wanted to do lately is play in the ship builder. but i haven't built much. no focus i guess. i'm planning a (non-MV) mod that will include entirely new ship designs for every race.

incidentally, i figured out how to use the KHSM offsets and the animation feature to make a squadron of fighters that actually "hover" a little while in formation, swaying a bit relative to each other. it makes the whole squadron thing look a little more realistic in the combat viewer..

Expansion pack already?  Didn't this just come out like...a month ago?

It's a basicly an addon that adds parts, it's kindea like those stuff packs that are for the Sims. Basicly it come with new parts for creatures. Also they are making a full exspansion pack that is supposed to be release this spring.

well its what EA does y'know?  See, Stardock releases expansion packs that are ACTUAL expansion packs- whole new materials, almost entirely new games.  EA releases stuff that was actually MADE for the original but not released.  I happen to remember this in particular for SimCity 4.  ALL of the promotional stuff, and even the pictures in the original manual had all these various features and items nowhere to be found in the game...and then just a short time later, Rush Hour came out.  And really, you needed Rush Hour just to make SC4 playable.  Its how they work.  Its bad business but people keep paying for the stuff (or at least downloading it illegally), so EA will keep doing it

Well, the Cute and Creepy addon seems cool, if I get it I might do another revision for my Geckodon, so that it's look more sinistet although I'll wait to see what parts there gonna have cause I heard they'll add parts that parts that could make your creatures look sinister, if I'm not satified with the parts, I'll keep it.

I think I may wait to get Spore until there's a bundle with some expansions.  A friend of mine gave me a few games he was done with, so I've got those for non-GC2 gaming.  I've also been feeling the urge to play Rome: Total War again and maybe a game of Hearts of Iron.

As for reading, I finished the 10th (and last, at least for now) "Black Company" book, also "To Reign in Hell", and now I've started "Destiny's Forge", another Kzinti book.   I've only read about 30 pages, but already have noticed some quite striking similarities with that greatest of sci-fi classics "Dune".  I'm sure the author must be a Dune fan.

In case anyone missed it, as Ragnar mentioned, the Galactic Core is back up again.

i did that with Sim City 4 a few months back. paid $10. it was (and likely will again be) an enjoyable gameplay experience, but i became keenly aware of just how much the players contribute to EA games, as well as exactly what they contribute. continuing SB's mini-rant, with SD players contribute feedback and suggestions. with EA (as well as BethSeda, i can say from personal experience), players contribute unofficial patches, upgrades and expansions that make those games truly enjoyable for me. i bought Sim City 4 and ES4: Oblivion at the same time. the player-mods made SC4 playable where it really wouldn't have been before, and with both games the mods and add-ins are what made the game truly enjoyable. OTOH i've downloaded very few mods for GC2. the stock game is more than ejoyable enough, but throw in the ability to easily create my own mods, and i'm pretty good.

anywho, i'm gonna focus on building a sample ship for Mr. Geckodon up there. i've got an interesting idea for an aesthetic motif.
