Game is hiccuping

Playing single player on a huge map. PC specs:

3.2 GHz Pentium 4, single core
2GB RAM
GeForce 7800 GS (distributor overclocked)

The game is pausing for a split second maybe 1.5 or 2 seconds. It's not an FPS issue, as the pausing happens even when zoomed out. Almost like the load of having a huge map with 9 enemies is too much, and it can't finish all it's processes before the next cycle, so it hiccups. It is regular, though, not condition-dependent; you could set your watch to how regular the pauses are.

That... is such an old annoyance. Its been around since Beta 2, at least, alas. It happens late game when system resources are tied up, but the really annoying thing is that CPU / RAM aren't maxed out when the issue occurs, so I have no clue whats causing it on my end.

hold your nose, tilt your head back and slowly drink warm water

Louis Lohman, try and press the ctrl-shift-z to remove the UI and see if that helps.

Could this be the autosave halting the game while writing to disk?

You don't autosave very couple of seconds

Guys, this is an old problem -- you can look up my posts about it.

Its a freeze, for a fraction of a second, every few seconds. The exact duration / frequency changes from game to game, but it happens in almost every (large) game, once you've hit a certain size.

Bad resource allocation somewhere, flips out after a certain point and then stays flipped out.
