Alliance tech not working ... ?

Love this game, first of all. However:

I have the alliance tech. So does everybody else, in some cases because I gave it to them.

Yet, when I go to the treaties section on the foreign relations screen, Alliance is not an option.

This really killed my last game in which I was going for an alliance victory.

Any help? :p

Let me ask another way: Anybody able to establish alliances with the Bonus Pack and patch installed?

I also have not been able to figure out how to establish an alliance with another major race. Does anyone have any suggestions??? :notsure:

Make sure that your relationship with the civ you want to ally with is "close". Otherwise the Alliance option won't appear in the diplomacy screen. To achieve such a relationship you need to either give them tech/money or trade with them.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm, that might be it. "Friendly" won't work?

I not, this is a problem with this screen, I think. The Alliance option simply *must* appear on your screen once you've researched it!

It would then be up to the AI to decline. This is just common sense...or am I smoking something bad here? LOL

Yep, I managed to ally up with the Torians and win the game thru alliance victory. It was me who offered the alliance so dunno what's wrong with your game.

Maybe you must have a friendly relation before you can even offer an alliance?

BTW I have the patch and bonuspack installed.

Yep, I have 'Friendly' but not 'Close' -- is that it? In any event, as I wrote above, the Alliance option *must* be added to the screen so we know it's there...

That's right - even if the relationship is friendly it won't appear. I think this is because the AI will definitely reject an alliance unless you are "close".

I understand that this is because the developers didn't want the alliance victory to be too easy. If you could bribe the AI into an alliance political victory would be extremely simple. Instead you must cultivate relationships through trade and gifts. Quite a good feature IMHO.

Yep close it was (couldn't find the word). I agree with ggmeade. This feature is very good, otherwise it would be too easy to bribe the cpu.

I have *no* problem with the alliance victory being hard. Heck, I worked my back-side off to get it this close in my current game.

However, if you've research the required tech, the *option* simply MUST appear on the screen! If you offer an alliance to somebody who is NOT close to you, then the AI should just reply:

"Sorry, we are not close enough."

As it stands, it looks like a bug. After all, what is the negotiations screen for if you can't offer stuff that will be refused?
