A note from Hindenberg:
This was a great game! We both had Sovas but I was able to get a trade network going. That gave me the edge with the economy but Ruin is better at tactics. I got a second cap ship and took out his Sova but he built a TON of frigates and took out my Sova too. He established more colonies that I did and, at that point, I thought I was toast but I was able to get a colony going myself which was just enough to keep up with him. I was able to keep the pirates on him the whole game which also was a help. This was one of the best games I've ever played of SINS.

Thanks for running the tournament!

Hindenberg

**All will be meeting at IRC channel #sinstourny

Q: How do i join that?
A: Run stardock central, click chat and connect. Then type in /join #sinstourny. If you use IRC, connect to the irc.stardock.com server and /join #sinstourny. Please use your ingame (ICO) name.

** Connection issues

If a player drops in the first 30min of the round, the game will be restarted. If a player drops any time after 30min he/she will automatically forfeit. If the game is restarted and the same player drops again at any time, he/she will automatically forfeit.

** Complete game crashes

If the whole game crashes, we will deal with it on a case by case basis after watching the replay. We don't expect this to happen as it's historically rare, which is why we decided to go case by case.

Q: Then what do i do, if this happens?
A: Report to #sinstourny with your group

** Teams

Teams have been randomly picked by using an online random number generator. As there are no 3-player maps, we have decided to add Hard AI as players since we didn't want any planets to be free for grabs.

Teams will be LOCKED FFA. To avoid any issues with an alliance accidentally winning the map (sorry, only one player from each game gets to move on to round 2!) and to have everyone on the same footing, after much discussion we decided not to leave teams unlocked. We encourage people to realize that just because the "ally" buttons are disabled does not mean there is no room for any inter-player diplomacy, and we encourage everyone to explore those options.

For any questions or concerns, either post or contact Multianna or Annatar, and we will do our best to address them. But keep in mind, we're pretty set on these rules so unless you discover something horrible that we missed, they are unlikely to change!

Thanks everyone for signing up, and HAVE FUN!

The winner of the 3 rounds will be receiving 5 tokens

Which can be used on TotalGaming.net

Which replay was funny?

Group 7s replay was of course the longest, as near the end, my scouts of doom provided little more than cannon fodder for emperorredlab's uber fleet of doom... 3 hrs and 30 min , my longest game ever! :CONGRAT:

ironic, as my final planet was the pirate base i took over via culture, when redlab got there , the pirates , valiant yet feeble attempt to protect me was futile. :NOTSURE:

That would be round 2 group 1.

After Pithlit was gone the game crashed, so they had to remake and do a 1vs1 with 2 hard AI's.

Ive never seen a game being so close, and if that wasnt enough the 2 AI's was almost winning too  funniest game ever :D

Can anyone sum up some of the highlights?

Yes! But, it wouldn't be very nice :P

Anyhoo, I hope most of you had fun! Multi and I learned a bit about hosting tournaments and planning for unforseen events (mainly, too many people not showing up for round 1).

Thanks to everyone who participated, and a congrats to everyone (not just Hindenberg!) for putting in their best ;)

I knew it, I knew it was our game. it was funny though. not the best display of my skills, but a somehow different game at least.

and again special thanks to anny and multi for the great organisation. real professional work I must say.

Uggghhh, I am still embarrassed at how Aladarian was able to assault my homeworld for what must have 30-60 minutes straight. In the end though, we effectively killed each other.

:CONGRAT:    Nice work Hindenberg!  Economy FTW.

Multianna....wow. Sincere thanks for pulling this all off  ;)

Congrats to the winner!

And a big "Aloha!" to all whom participated in the event. I wish I was able to do so as well. Anyway expect more in the future to be sure.

gg Hindenburg... berg ;) (he now its just a joke, dont take it seriously)

By the Way.... with this last match we could prove that sins isnt a rts.
It combineds RTS and 4X games in a new way.

RT4X

Edit:
Watched the replays and now i hate Ruin and Paradoxnt :(
Those two are squirrels.
Eet go get em...

Awww, come on. There were plenty of games with alliances. Still, you did manage to make sure I wasn't going to win that one. Good one.
Also if aldarian didnt crash you 2 could have turned out fine against Ruin, as you agreed not to attack each other :D

Jop, he hasent got a fleet which could have stand mine.
And with you on his other front, he would surely have some real problems, even with that economic

Congrats, Hindenberg!  :)

Well, unfortunately we won't know. Still, I have to say our hour long (nearly) battle over my homeworld was pretty cool. The rebuilding afterwards also taught me that you get ~50% of the resources for scrapping your structures (I initially thought it was far less than that).

Hmmm, anybody know if you get 100% for scrapping structures that haven't had construction started on them?

if a structure has begun construction and you scrap it, you only get some of the resources back. As long as it just a blueprint you get all back
Reply #240 Top
Ah, so that is why some players are using the 0% constructed as movement blockers. Easy exploit to use since they can get all their $ back when they immediately cancle construction.
not sure what you mean by movement blockers, but those structures at 0% can get destroyed by a single shot from a fighter ;)
I think Schem brought it up before. If your ship (capital ship for example) is being pursued by another ship inside your gravity well, you can order a structure made in front of the pusuing enemy ship, and then immediately cancel construction.

The point of doing this is that you mess with the pursuing ships movement, AND you don't lose a dime for doing it.
but then again the user that tries that tactic, will lose alot of cash if the persuing ship actually targets them, so i dont really see it as an exploit. Also ive never seen it being used as you describe :)

A) you CAN'T target them before the enemy can de-construct them -- you can't react that fast.
B) I've seen them used to VERY good effect preventing ships from *retreating* from a system unfairly -- plop one down right in from of the retreating ship, and boom its locked in place.
id like to see a replay of when this is being used.

Or im willing to try this with someone who can use that tactic :D
Reply #246 Top
ill show you if you give me teh monies!
ive seen it now, yeah the tactic works. But only for slower ships with bad maneuvering.

Though i were able to get some of his turrets, but if i were on low health i would properly have been dead... hmm
Reply #248 Top
The idea behind it is really to stop retreating capitals. Usually capitals only retreat when they're already taking a beating, and you gotta admit a lot of the time when capitals do escape, it's with barely any HP.. even being slowed down/stopped for 2-3 seconds is enough of a difference to matter, and someone who's used to using that tactic can do much better than 2-3 seconds :P

In short.. hopefully it's addressed somehow, because right now I'd consider it borderline exploit, and by borderline it's "still has the little toe on the non-exploit side, everything else is leaning over to exploit" :P
Reply #249 Top
Yeah, I just have a dislike for a theoretical 'will one day start to build something here' stopping a massive capitalship.
if the blueprints have to be visible for all, units should be able to travel thru them until construction has begun on it
