Invasion Tactic

an invasion tactic i just thought of

OK I know TA is being made and it might be too late for me to ask for this to be attempted but I think I would try anyway.

This is my idea, ships bombarding a planet, like maybe make a weapon that doesn't do anything in a space battle (or maybe it can) but when a ship with this is in orbit or next to the planet with this weapon and you invade you can have a bombard option. I was thinking that it would have some levels of research that allow it to take out more defenders but it would also take out some structures and maybe tile bonuses to weigh it a little bit more, but what do you think, could this be done in TA? Either with the final game or in a later patch?

So it's still noting too different than the Mass Driver invasion option? "Things coming from space hitting the planet".

Sort of but mass driver lowers advantage this lowers troop sizes and is a little more controlled than the mass driver and maybe it could be used as a long range weapon in space

Heh heh, I just got an interesting kernal of an idea from that. Say you're at war with a faction and you manage to flip one of his asteroid mines. Instead of immediately sending resources to one of your planets, you can opt to have the mining base send large chunks of rock at high velocity towards the former mine's assigned colony.

It could damage/destroy random planetary improvements (maybe even requiring use of a technology to recover the sector), as well as kill population/reduce approval rating.

Hell, if nothing else it might even reduce the targeted faction's Soldier level.

Anyway, it's an interesting thought, but I don't know if it is worth the hassle of coding it.
