Imperium Galactica?

Any similarities?

I was a huge fan of Imperium Galactica growing up. As soon as I heard about this game, it popped into my head. I'm a huge fan of this sort of game and as soon as I realized I could get into beta by placing a pre-order I decided to take the plunge. Tell me that I'm making the right decision! I hope this game is as awesome as I think it is.

You made the right decision if you like both RTS and 4X
This does a very good job of combining both.
However it is BETA with a lot more features to come, especially on the 4X side. So when you download the beta4 just make sure you treat it like that.
Having said this BETA4 is pretty fun to play still..... it does need the missing features to make sure it has longevity though.

I know I have not regretted it, everybody I have showed it too has been impressed.

I do like both RTS and 4x. I understand that it is just beta. I trust Stardock. They are one of the greatest game publishing companies/developers out there. I know they are just publishing this game, but they know what they are doing. I'm a HUGE fan of GalCiv2. I will pretty much buy whatever they shove out the door.

One quick question. I know its off topic completely, but how do I get constructors? They seem to just appear. What makes them appear?

Constructors spawn automatically when you colonize a world. Develop the planets some more by adding population, tactical, and logistics slots. This will increase the amount of constructors a planet spawns (max is 3 iirc).

I have never played IG2. I almost wish i did. The game isnt available anymore as far as i know

And even if it was available, it a PITA to get running.

I actually think IG2 has the edge on Sins in all the 4X elements at this point.

Given that the majority of the 4X elements are currently in internal development, duh! :P

You would need a lobotomy of the design at this late stage of development to be honest. Not gonna happen.

Its not even that they are making major additions to it, the way I hear. Its that they have a lot of stuff that just hasn't been released to the public yet.

well, i think the fact that two of the hard ai combined have the IQ of your average herring makes a huge difference in the way the game is played. there is more strategy when you are going against actual people than when you fight an AI that thinks arcovas are the backbone of your fleet

well said.

same problem with HW. (and I have yet to find a better RTS game (if you think you know one, don't tell me))

I have played IG2 but not 1 or 3.

I hated how that game would stack ships. So if you had 100 destroyers in a fleet on the battle map you would have 10 destroyers with the number 10 in the selection box. Basically you had 1 destroyer that could be destroyed 10 times.

There is no IG3 (Nexus: the Jupiter Incident was supposed to be IG3, but that got canned).

I have yet to find a non cheating AI that can stand up to a human player. Sins will give you somewhat of a challenge IF you give it a head start. Like turtling, and allowing it to tech up to lvl 15. Try fighting TEC AI when it has researched insurgency :p I have had rare epic battles with the AI, but like i said you have to allow it to build up before that happens.
