Cannot choose number of races in Scenario mode?

When I play a New Game without a scenario chosen (i.e. Scenario = Normal) then I can adjust the number of other major races inhabiting the galaxy. But when I choose a Scenario (e.g. Battle of the Gods, Accelerated Start), there are always 8 other races in the "Choose Opponents" screen, and I cannot remove any. Whether I choose to play a Tiny or Gigantic sized map, I'm always stuck with 8 other races!

Is there some problem here? If it's supposed to be like that, I really don't get the logic of why you should be forced to play with 8 opponents in a non-Normal scenario.

I just started playing this game a couple weeks ago, and I think the design is excellent. I think some of the scenarios that give you an accelerated start on technology are an excellent way for newbies like myself to dive in and experience the game, but being forced to play with 8 opponents may be overwhelming, and I think there should be an option for us to choose the number of races in our scenarios.

Well, that IS the point with scenario settings, wouldn't you agree?
It hands over pre-defined & fixed set of conditions for the player to enjoy.

There is always some indirect solution for anyone; editing the files and re-saving with new preferences under a different tag-scenario-name.

Yes, but isn't it a little strange and suspicious that all of the scenarios restrict you to playing with 8 opponents?

Ah, maybe I'll learn how to do that sometime. :)

While I think perhaps they should vary the scenarios some, the whole point of a scenario is to play the game under StarDock's conditions and win. Sandbox mode is for people that want to play the game under their own conditions.

Then I think they should remove the "Click on a portrait to select a civilization. You may enable or disable a selected civilization, and modify its intelligence and starting relations with your civilization" message that appears when you choose to play Scenarios, and replace it with a less misleading message, such as "These are the civilizations and the conditions of this scenario that you will start out with."

Hmm. I don't remember not being able to choose my opponents. But then it has been some time since I have played DA, and even longer since I played any of the scenarios, so I'm not really the one to comment on this.

I can, however, comment on the scenarios in TA. Since there is no multiplayer in GalCiv, not even head to head, there has never been any way to judge the relative strengths of players. The new scenarios are an attempt to rectify this situation.

Everyone starts out on an even footing. We are given a custom map, our opponents are set, our own race is set; and from there we are free to play the game as we see fit. This is by no means a perfect solution; the scoring is still heavily skewed towards a military victory, so those who routinely play this style have a distinct advantage, but it is the best we have at present.

Frogboy will, AFAIK, be the one writing these new scenarios, so perhaps he might be persuaded to mix up the victory conditions a bit, in order to make things a bit more interesting for those players who don't always play the game of annihilation. There will be a new victory condition upcoming in TA, and I think that one would be an excellent start, since no player will have any experience along those lines, and all players would truly be starting from scratch.

with scenarios you cant change the races because it's a scenario all of the settings are supposed to be predefined. If you want you could download GalCiv2Ide from the i-mod-productions website and make your own scenarios with different amounts of players. it's really easy.
