Some Things Ought to be Obvious

Watching a commercial on TV about a new imaging process that shows a full size, 3-D image of an embryo in the womb, I heard the announcer say that now you can see the family resemblances in a week or two. And you can know for sure that it is a human life. I know what they were intending...the argument that it ain't people until whenever your favorite formula kicks in. But the way they stated it put the silliness of the whole argument on display. Of course it is a human. Giraffes don't come out of there. It doesn't matter at what point you choose to recognize it as human, if left alone it will be a human being 85 per cent of the time. No, the other 15 per cent aren't other species...they represent the natural abortions and still born babies. I know it is politically "fun" to argue these things, but c'mon...its a baby person.
Another news story today may not be as obvious...I think it is but you may not. The Great State of Arizona has a new law on employer responsibility that takes effect yesterday. Employers have to do an electronic SSAN check on new employees. Sounds pretty radical, huh? There are some heavy penaltlies attached to knowingly hiring illegals. So in response to this "hostile" attitude towards employers in Arizona, Carl's Jr. is removing itself from the state. There is already a noticable reduction in the low income work force...the illegals are moving to other states...where they can get work without all that "legal hassle".
While the debate rages on about who is and who ain't to blame, who should and who shouldn't be able to work, should we build a fence or not, are we racist or not, who's gonna cut my grass, clean my toilets, fry my Big Mac, (not your SuperStar...in Arizona anyway) and how the economy will fall on its face...Arizona went about fixing it in the only logical way. It cut off the incentive for being here illegally. Yippee-cayoh-cayay !!
Well, it isn't a perfect fix, but it is a darn good start. There is still the matter of drug smuggling, and Mexican military incursion into US soil...and the smuggling of illegals will continue until everyone gets it and starts cutting off the jobs. The fence is still a good idea, electronic surveillance is a good idea, arming the Border Patrol with automatic weapons is a good idea, putting Army combat arms units on the southern border is an even better idea. Blowing the crap out of invaders is a great idea. I wish someone would think of it. I don't know why the Federal government is soooo slow on this. I have heard all the conspiracy talk and how Bush is in league with the big business guys (landscaping, asphalt and fast food is a powerful cabal)...funny how he is so dumb he can't find his butt with both hands but is clever enough to set up all these conspiracies and keep 'em secret.
Just an aside for those who are inclined to preach to me about how the military isn't set up for border patrol work, they can't do that job...I spent most of my career in the Army in NATO, whose primary mission it was to keep the Russians and East Germans on their side of the border. I was in a Cav unit on the border, in numerous support units in varying echelons supporting the border troops....we must have done a pretty fair job for 46 years...and the Russians had a much more determined force than Mexico. So there.
I am just rambling, now. I should stop, I said what was on my mind. But I have a hard time understanding why some things are so obvious to me but seem to be shrouded in foggy, misty, mystery to others. Sometimes dinosaur eyes are better, I think.

the US wouldn't want to collect FICA from illegals, but maybe enact a different tax that covers the use of public schools, health care, housing, etc. that is more applicable to the illegals.
