single player campaign and sandbox mode

Hello everyone

I have a quick question, do Sins come with both a single player campagin and also a sandbox mode like in GC2. Also, if there is a campaign, can it play be through in multiplayer. thanks.

Hello,

I read this post with the greatest attention and I have few remarks. First remark is about how boring and repetitive a campaign in the RTS genre can be. I agree with you that westwood style gameplay is so boring but only for one reason. That gameplay style was reused over and over and over. That compnay inveted the RTS genre.
But this doesn't mean that good RTS campaign is impossible to write. Just to name few exemples :

Ground Control 1 and it expension pack Dark Conspiracy

World in Conflict (it is like playing Red Storm Rising novel by Tom Clancy)

Homeworld 1 and 2

Imperium Galactica 1

Dark Reign 1

Act of War 1 and 2

Earth 2150 and 2160

And so on....

However it is true also that some games without story mode have made the box office on the market. Just to name Total War series. There is no storyline nor campaign mode but you have sandbox and yet it didn't stop games from selling.

So IMHO we should wait before hanging the dev team for not including the storyline. It all depends on game mecanics. It can suck as well as it can rock.

Games like COH and its expansion COH OF both have campaigns , whats funny is I've only played 4-5 missions into each, the core of the game is multiplayer... That where I feel Sins also is. But the story must be told!

I've prefer a free campaign add on, and then in a possible expansion a closer to the story, along with whatever the Vasari were running from.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I read the book and played the game at the same time, and between that and sleep deprivation, was halfway convinced the russians were invading.

Also, with an epic enough feel to the game, stuff such as galciv and hopefully sins can generate their own story.

God I loved that game!

ImperiumGalatica2 managed to get a great story in a 4X RTS style sandbox game, and it had more depth to the gameplay too,but that's another matter.

It might have had more depth, maybe, but it didn't do its depth nearly as well / as fun as Sins has. It was also far more 4X than sins is designed to be -- unless the promised "goodies" include a 4X style tech tree and ship design! :P

also yarlen in your own personall opinion as a gamer, (not as a sins dev)
what percentage of the final game are we experiencing in the beta4?

I would say...maybe 20%, 25%. 33% on the outside.  There's just been soo much that's changed. Those of you in the beta will probably think you're seeing Sins for the first time again.
