Could someone give me a step by step on how to upgrade to the newest version or how to check what version I am on? Tried all last night, can't seem to get it done. >:(

OK, making the wild assumption that Stardock Central is working for you...

1- load SDC
2- do whatever registration you need (hopefully none...)
3- select "Software" from the top left, and then the Drengin.net tab. You should see GalCiv and a few other items listed.
4- go to Tools --> Settings and check the "Show application revisions" box. That will let you see exactly what version of GalCiv you have installed.
5- click on the GalCiv listing in the main screen... an "Update" button should appear to the right of it.
5a- if no update button appears, try Tools --> Refresh Application Data, as well as making sure you're connected to the Atlanta server (Tools --> Settings --> Connection). If that still doesn't work, try restarting SDC. And if THAT doesn't work, go make noise in one of the myriad download problems threads around here. :)
6- click Update.
6a- the file should only be around 1MB. If it's 85MB, SDC is downloading the whole game. Return to 5a.

Well....it says what version you have from the menu after you start a game, but mine still says 1.01 and I don't seem to see any other patches\add-ons from stardock central. I have a retail version from EB and not sure what to do either? :(

That's not a very good screen to go off of at this point. There are about 3 different 1.01's available at the moment. 1.01, 1.01a.030, and 1.01a.031 if memory serves. The easiest way I know to find out exactly which version you've got is use SDC, as mentioned above.

What version does SDC say you're running?

1.01.029 is what it says I have at Stardock Central after doing what you said. When I click the history on my version in the margin on the left it does list 1.01A.30 as the latest added...so am I up to date then? :notsure:
