Hypocrisy

Thanks to Maso for the idea...you got me thinking, mate!

Actions speak louder than words and from what I see,

They shout nothing but hypocrisy.

Day after day and time after time,

I see people talk the talk,

But can’t walk for a dime.

I wonder if they think,

That somehow their soul is saved,

By saying and not doing,

And committing acts so depraved.

What is wrong with these people?

(Or should I call them so?)

That feel ever so fine,

Looking down on you,

As they continually cross the line.

On one hand they believe,

On the other they deceive.

So smug in their self affirmation,

But all the while rolling toward damnation.

No good deed,

Not a coin to spare.

Living empty lives so important,

But they still have time to glare.

Looking at you with soulless eyes,

So confident, but they do not realize.

That while they sit in a pew for only one day,

Their sin builds up, much to their dismay.

Living a life that condemns,

And never offering aid,

They think they’re just fine,

That somehow they’ve got it made.

But when the final bell tolls,

And they pass on from this life.

What will await them?

As they cause such torment and strife.

What do they expect?

A free pass to paradise?

To be totally forgiven,

And not pay the price?

The price of their misdeeds,

Their conquest and greed.

The pain they cause to their peers,

Creating conflict, instilling fears.

I prefer to think not,

I have a hope that I hold dear,

Is that they’ll see themselves as we do,

Disgusting and wretched without their veneer.

Maso's article and the discussion about those people who think they're holier than thou cause they find their way through a church door once a week while finding their way up the back door of their secretary for the rest of the week while the family sits at home wondering why daddy works so late...and variations thereof.

You know the type. :D

Thanks for readin', man. :)

But aren't we all hypocritical? People contradict themselves every day... Christian or not.
I like to think that God has a meaning for us outside of reaching Heaven... Otherwise there would be no earth, you know? So I agree with the "Their conquest and greed." point.
I believe because I've been taught that Jesus loves and died for us. But that doesn't mean I don't swear like a sailor...
It's conflicting... but I'm human.
And faith is easy to be greedy about, just because of the wonders we are supposedly offered.

Thank ya, Maso.

True...but there's a huge difference between contradiction and a hypocritical lifestyle.  You see, it's fine to screw up once in awhile...tell someone not to smoke, then you light up a cigarette.  Yeah, that's a bit hypocritical.  However, constantly preaching to other people while you've got more skeletons in your closet than there are within the entire earth's crust...that's fucking hypocritical and not tolerable.

Humans make mistakes, that's okay.  Humans that think their shit doesn't stink and go out of their way to tell everyone else that theirs does...that's a problem.

I want to defend fellow Christians, because we have good intentions. But your points are very true.
Not all are like that, though. I know several good honest Christian people, and I wish you could meet them.

Like me? :D

I doubt I qualify as a Christian anymore. I ask too many questions.

I know there are good people, who also happen to be Christian...in fact, most of my friends are...unfortunately I feel they're becoming the exception to the rule.

The hypocrite never asks questions, they simply strive to portray an image.
