How do you colonize asteriods?

For the asteriod gravity well, how do you put extractors on it? My colony ship doesn't seem to do anything, and construction frigates can't phase jump.

either scouts or colony ships(based on the race) have the ability to build extractors.

Er, just in case this is your problem: If your colony ship can't colonize something that it should, check it's blue 'antimatter' bar. It may be out of fuel, when that happens it takes a little while before it can get back to digging tunnels.

you must be talking about the belts....you would have to use a scout to go and capture the extractor

Thanks. I'll see if #3 is the issue. My colony ship should have antimatter; it hasn't done anything.
