Really serious A.I. bug and a few others.

First of all i want to congratulate Ironclad (and Stardock) for creating such a great game :) if it wasn't for this damn exam period i wouldn't stop playing.

Now to the point.

I was massing my fleet at one of the Suns at the Dobbleganger map, pretty big one too, when one of the AI players (all of them set to Normal difficulty) jumps in its strike fleet in order to attack one of my nearby planets.
At first i thought it would turn and face my fleet given that both fleets were roughly the same size and capabilities, instead it just went its way to jump at the planet the AI was going to attack (this i found quite stupid and i do consider it a bug), so i ordered my fleet to pursue hoping to catch them between my defenses and my strike fleet but this ain't what happened.
The enemy fleet just froze on the jump point, it just stood there doing nothing while my fleet went on a turkey hunt, it didn't even retreat when it lost its capital ships (7 of them).
From what i observed the A.I. fleet was stuck there waiting to group jump with some ships that were left behind in an OTHER solar system (i actually waited and saw that the ship they were waiting was a single Akon battlecruiser that went on the offensive alone).

On an other note i think that the trade alliance must be tweaked so it can be offered only if you are at peace with a given player, so you have given permission to his/hers tradeships to trade with but you are still blowing them up?.

As for something that really annoys me.It is really annoying every time a single frigate jumps in one of your planet you get a warning about an enemy attack and the snarky comment from the A.I. it reminds me of the story with the boy that screamed wolf and in the end no one believed him.

Umm actually if it is what i am thinking of then it is not an AI problem. In the Beta test we were plauged with the "Waiting for Formation" message. As a player just hit the group jumpbutton fast and have them hold position whtn they get to the other side.

Ships no longer jump in formations so tou may wind up on the other side a bit jumbled, but it is better then waiting for a while before they go in.

Not something that seems easily exploited since it will require the AI player to create the circumstances of the bug each time.

@OP - Wow. That is a pretty loaded title to say the least. I would consider rewording to something a little less inflammatory and more accurate. It is just a suggestion...

Anyway, you should have made this post in the technical forum and not the general one. Regardless I hope you have your last saved game so you can send it to SD/IC to look at the situation.

@ 1spartan, i do consider that the complete destruction of a fleet that consisted of 7 capitals and roughly 100 frigates due to this a serious A.I. bug.

As for a save i do have the Auto save feature on and i am sure that the game saved during that particular fight but where do i send it?

Send it to [email protected] with a description of what they should be looking at.

Eventually Craig or Blair will knock me over the head with something heavy, but until then..

No.

Trade alliance in and of itself gives your trade ships "permission" to be there...

Correction, i meant you are still able to blow your enemy fleet apart and bomb their planets, which means that you lose reputation with that particular player with the result of a revoked trade alliance.

@Dragoongfa - I dont doubt you do. It may not be an AI issue however it could very well be a trigger issue; not that it ultimately matters to people.

I guess the title part "a few others" implying several "really serious" bugs were discovered in your post. I had no intention of discounting your error for what it is worth.

So i sent the save game to Ironclad (i am pretty sure that they will come after me...eventually :P)

Right then i found that the auto record feature was left on and it recorded the whole thing so i uploaded it on RS and here it is:
http://rapidshare.com/files/90117734/Cattle_to_the_slaughter.html

Just put it at the "record single player" folder at
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire

and then watch it with the ingame "watch record" feature.

The "battle" starts at around 04:50

PS:Does anyone have any interesting records btw?
