Spore weapons: Is this a bug?

I really like the CanBeTraded and CanBeStolen tags.

However.

While Spore Weapons (in both TA and DA) can neither be traded nor stolen, Germ Warfare, its prerequisite tech, can be stolen (but not traded). (Unless I'm missing something.)

So if one were to invade the Korath early on, one could walk away with Germ Warfare and then later research Spore Weapons. Obviously with the unique tech trees that TA brings, this is less abuseable; possibly not abuseable at all-I haven't checked in TA yet. But it does make me wonder.

Is this intentional?

And while I'm at it, is there any chance this thread can get some love? I posted it in DA Bug Reports, as I tested it there, but I've since verified it exists in TA as well.

Oddly enough, research seems to be unaffected; it's only social and military that give incorrect values.

Incidentally, just checked in DL, and it doesn't exist there.

In DA maybe, because all races share the same tech tree. Depends on how the file is coded and how the larger code works, wether Spore Weapons or Germ Warfare, or both, are coded as unique.

But in TA the techs are not even in your tech tree file (well, actually, I have not checked this, that would be an interesting little window into the developer intent on this issue if they _were_ there) so I do not think you can grab either of them.

Have you tried this in a game to see if it works (not just getting the techs, not even just building the ships, but actually using them on an enemy planet - who knows at what point the devs might have put a roadblock), it would be very, very nice to know! Also I wonder if you can ever get the Korath to sell you the spore ships?

As a corollary I also wonder about the war profiteering stuff for the Drath. Another very handy race-unique tech as IIRC you can make almost as much on that as you can on your taxes. I _have_ found out by experimenting for that one if you can somehow get the tech it will work for other races. With all the diplo bonuses, just not sure about the manipulator effect beyond the diplo, of course never tried that to see how that works anyhow.

In TA, stealing Germ Warfare does not allow you to research Spore Weapons. In my next game I'll have to see if I can buy some spore ships. I normally exterminate the Korath first thing because they always beeline for Nightmare Torpedo and get very, very tough very fast.
