1650x1050 window mode

I tried to search for this topic but didn't find any. I'm running Vista and a 8800GTX Forceware version 169.28 and I can run the game fine in 1650x1050 but in window mode the game seems to revert back to 1024x768 or simular - it doesn't work at all. I run two 22" widescreen monitors and prefer to play in window mode - does anyone have a clue what's wrong?

The latest WHQ certified Nvidia drivers are 169.25 - I am running a newer pre-release version from Guru3d, that might be the problem.

In my case, the 1024 x 768 window (on a 1440 x 900 desktop) occurs when you set the windowed mode from the game program's inner options.

The solution is to edit the user.setting text-file with Notepad (NOT Wordpad or Word).

1. Find that file in your IrocladGames\SinsofaSolarEmpire\Setting folder.
2. Right-click on the user.setting file, and select open with Notepad.
3. Find this group of lines (the numbers are an example for my original situation) :

VideoIsWindowed TRUE
VideoRefreshRate 60
VideoFullScreenWidth 1440
VideoFullScreenHeight 900
VideoWindowedWidth 1024
VideoWindowedHeight 768

I changed the Window Width line to 1360, so now, I have a big 1360 x 768 window on a 1440 x 768 desktop, on a 17-inch widescreen (which required me to keep the 768 part).

Unfortunately, at the moment, you cannot do that from inside the game program, which will impose, as you have said, a too small window. You have to do it yourself by editing that user.setting text-file.

That worked beutifully thanks, so there is a bug in the UI that doesn't save the textfile I guess. The only thing to add to your tip is that you have to turn on "show hidden files/folders" to find the C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting on Vista.

Thanks.

When set to windowed mode the game opens at 1024x768, all you need to do is maximize it like any other window (you can freely resize it while it's running).

Thanks, kryo : It is my negligence for not making the elementary effort to try that!

But I liked to edit the user.setting text-file : it gave me more precise control.

@ karelin : I'm glad that it worked. I have Win XP : it is also within a "hidden" folder, there. Your supplementary info will help someone else, who doesn't easily find that folder.

But I wonder why Ironclad chose to "hide" its whole "Ironclad Games" folder, where the saved games & replays and the setting files are located.

It is one of Microsoft's "Games for Windows" requirements that we store all user-generated application data in this directory.
