BROKEN: TRIBUTE in TRADE. v1.01a via sdcentral

it's not just an exploit anymore...

Tried at AI levels up to Bright: In my games when you trade items to the AI for tribute, you ALWAYS get a sweet spot at 5 turns, so he'll take a tech at 100$/5turns but sometimes not at 4 turns, 0 turns or 6 turns, etc...

As it is, trade via diplomacy needs to be rethought out completely anyway. See my Vega Scoutworks thread as well. This makes the game pretty unplayable to capitalists like me who jsut want a fair deal; I don't want suckers born every turn.

Brad? What say you?

Other people in here see this?

Can anyone who has the new patch and played with it already post a review of the fixes? what still works/doesn't work anymore?

I tend to agree with Dearmad in that I think these exploits are damaging to large number of players.

If these problems are too difficult to fix with AI (which is understandable) then I'm in favour of fixing them with hardcoded game rules (ie. enforced peace, inability to buy ai ships in orbit, etc.)

Well soo far playing with the newpatch, the trades inequities seem *almost* totally gone. Need to finish my current game (Brightlevel) to see how it goes.

One question though. What feeling do you get in the trade window now? Does it feel "fixed" or "nerfed"? Are trade strategies now fair-but-viable or largely redundant?

We've tried to make it more intelligent, not harder.

We didn't nerf it, we made it think more about it. And in fact, the build that we put up today actually makes it EASIER to trade things than previously. Just more intelligent about it.

Yeah it seems to be working well so far. Trading tech is still working, but doesn't seem too unbalanced yet. Now, please see my Buying items from company thread for another (but much SMALLER) problem. :)

Glad Brad is nowhere near enough to be within striking distance, he'd have clobbered be now, methinks. :p
